[Question] - Before Comabt items in Challenges

By Ender Sai, in Runebound

Hello forum viewers,

I have a question;

If you use a "before combat" item on a challenge, is it still being affected by terms described on the challenge card in question?

In this specific case an "Alchemists Flash Bomb" being used on a "Shadow Ferox" (from undead challenge expansion thingy).

Would the Alchemist's flash bomb deal wounds to the Shadow ferox?

Can you please post the text for both cards? There are so many cards in Runebound now, it very unlikely someone will remember the ones you're referring to.

Since the card Shadow Ferrox is inside a Challenge Card Expansion (Terrors of the Tomb), it's always better to quote the text to allow any User to give an answer.

However, I found the card and it says:

This Challenge ignores all Wounds except those inflicted by magic attacks.

Special rules on a card apply in all Phases, if it's not stated otherwise. I think the current FAQ puts it this way.

The Alchemist Flash Bomb, which is a Discard-to-Use Item which deals 3 damages Before Combat, has no effect against the Shadow Ferrox. Only Wounds from Magic attacks could harm this creature, so use Touch of Death, Crystal Staff or Varikas the Dead's ability to deal damage Before Combat. If you're not able to do it, you've to escape or attack in the Magic Combat Phase.

Hey guys, thanks for responding.

That's what I thought Warlock, but wanted to poll the community at large to be sure (there was a debate about this during a game :P ).

I'm sorry about not posting what the cards do, I wasn't sure on the etiquette on posting such information on the forum.

For the benefit of other readers:

Card 1 (item): is of type "activate to deal X <3s to challange" an Explosive Weapon type of item.

Card 2 (challenge): is of type "this challenge is immune to all <3s that aren't inflicted by magic attacks".
