Lando's Millennium Falcon Title

By Slade, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I noticed the recent errata for this Title - Should read: “While you have an Escape Craft docked, you may treat its shields as if...” - Replacing “spend" with "treat"

I've been trying to follow previous discussion on how the title would work but I'm still confused on the 'may'. The way I read it is that it is not an obligation to treat the shields as if ...

But when do you decide to use the shields on the escape craft or not?

Assume the Scum Falcon has already received 5 hits in the game. I decided to take 3 damage removing the shields from the Falcon and take another 2 regular hull hits on the Falcon which leaves the Craft shields untouched.

When I'm taking damage again can I decide to take it from the craft shields a that stage?

- I would assume that once you've taken hull hits on the Falcon you can no longer revert back to taking shields from the escape craft since you past the state (for lack of better words) to make that decission during the game.

- I would assume you could also not decide to take 1 crit damage on the Craft shield and another 1 damage on the Falcon hull while the Craft still has 2 shields to play with.

The errata effectively just fixed the wording to make it clear it works the way it's always worked. And no, the only time it's tool ate to choose to use the escape crafts shields is after you've drawn the crit card, since each damage is dealt individually you get the "may" choice with each one. So yes, you can take hits to the hull and then soak a crit with the Escape Craft. I see no reason you wouldn't be able to.

Thx. I always took that as the more liberal interpretation and wondered if this is how it should/will be played. Having the choice to take crit damage on the shuttle shield whenever it appears is (very) helpfull compared to my assumptions.

it's all about the wording. when you take damage, you do not spend shields, you just loose them. that means that with the old wording you could not use the shuttle's shields to absorb incoming damage, but only for effects such as intertial dampeners.

you may now treat the shuttle's shields as you own, which means you can use the shuttle's shields to absorb incoming damage if you want. this can be done for any damage at any time, since damage is dealt one at a time.
