BBY is now BSI

By Shadowshand, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Disney has now made BBY & ABY...(Before and After the Battle of Yavin)

...to BSI and ASI. (Before and After Starkiller Incident)

Star Wars Theory talks about it here .

EDIT: He corrected himself. Disney came out and said that certain acronyms for certain time periods that books and other media work around are still in use. I recall hearing that earlier myself about the timeline points changing, but they are not.

BBY and ABY are still in use.

I screwed the pooch prematurely.

Both BBY and BSI are silly choices for points in time to track history from.

Edit: Just to clarify my point, I get why BBY was used, since it was the first movie and creation of the SW Universe, it was a point in time everything could be put in reference to for the fans, but its just a silly idea of tracking something from that particular event that gets clumsy the longer and larger the universe grew. Something like the formation of the Galactic Empire or the Republic would have been much more relevant than a single battle that didn't even end the war. As well, even those don't really matter in the Outer Rim.

It would be like if Americans decided to put dates and history Before or After the Battles of Lexington and Concord.

It really would make more sense to use Empire Day and then "Republic" day as the important events.

Then they need to actually know what happened after the end of Return of the Jedi and tell us about the... ****gasp**** ...politics of the universe before the Starkiller incident.

They need a way to be able to quickly place the tie-in books and stuff for the folks new to it. The casuals will at least have an idea of before and after The Force Awakens while also getting a clue that they have New EU stuff as opposed to old EU Stuff. Cynical marketing to be sure but probably necessary for fans to keep stuff straight.

Yet another reason to see Disney SW as dead to me..

Really, they should have just left it alone as BBY. But if you're going to pick something else, Empire Day feels the most right. In lore, I could see the Republic being like, "well, we're going to use OUR day now," but as you say... that story hasn't even really been told.

I like Star Wars theory but I had to call him out before, I know he is a fan and he needs some controversy to get views but sometimes he jumps the gun too fast, I cross check at least two or three sources and if I can’t I will indate it as such.

I think it actually makes sense to use a dating system specific to the era instead of dating everything back to Yavin... ABY can be a mess sometimes, especially for more casual fans... and hard to explain why everything is dated back to it... especially when playing an RPG game prior to Yavin :P

And I personally think that they should eventually move away from ABY and find a date that makes more sense. I get why it was used before, but now the Star Wars universe is so much bigger... Creation of the Empire could make sense, but there would be no reason why it would have been kept after the reinstoration of the Republic post Endor. Splitting it in timeline could be the way to go, with big turning points as reference: Empire time/New Republic time/Post Republic time...

SWT's irresponsibility will now result in more misinformed fans.

As if we needed more of that.

Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. At least he corrected himself ASAP.

More like he was responsible and kept his integrity for information provided.

Which many fans lack, apparently...

Plus, I heard it before he shared his video, which I only shared as it was the quickest link I found on the subject. If anyone made a mistake here in these forums on that subject, it was myself for sharing this content which I retracted as soon as I also had learned that it was not accurate.
