Investigators had their "Azathoth" handed to them

By The Professor, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

So, despite the fact that Dexter Drake managed to acquire the following Monster Trophies: Star Spawn, Maniac, Mummy, Zombie, Byakhee, Chthonian, Ghost, Witch, Dhole, Formless Spawn, and a Cultist; an Ally; two Gate Trophies; and a Healing Stone...Mark Harrigan acquired the following Madness Cards: Claustrophobia, Depression, Mania, and Necrophobia. The other two investigators, Carolyn Fern and Wilson Richards, did fine in terms of clering monsters, closing/sealing a few gates, and acquiring some rather good possessions, the team just couldn't pull it together to seal enough/close all of the gates to keep Azathoth from laying waste to Arkham.

Which brings me to the Rumor which might be the most difficult one out there...Nightmare Pool (which is the Sanity version of the Riots Rumor). This one is absolutely insane (no pun intended) ~ the Fail result is quite deadly and the Pass result...1 Common Item is almost insulting.

I frickin hate those "accumulate" rumors. I'm thankful that the added three board expansions alleviates much of the stress.

Tibs,

I'm okay with a difficult Rumor to get the blood boiling and the Investigators to step-it up a notch, but seriously...a Common Item? Really?!?!?!

The Professor

'Accumulate' rumors have their difficulties to pass taken down a notch thanks to the multi-expansion-less-players rule. Most of the time for me now, I'm playing with 6 investigators and the game treats it as 4.

Then again, the difficulty is not down by that much.

'Cover-up' came up twice during the 3rd or 4th Mythos in two of my games. I'm only thankful that I randomly picked Jacqueline Fine both times. I mean, 12 toughness worth of monster (and 4 additional per Mythos) by turn 3? Really? It's quite a crazy rumor.

However, the rewards for passing (if it is possible) is pretty decent. Better than 1 Common item per player I guess. However, at least Nightmare Pool is passable in the early point of the game.

By the way, 'Cover-up' is a Kingsport rumor. Not my favorite for an expansion rumor.

I meant using multiple boards, the rumor is counted as having fewer in-game investigators, so it accumulates more slowly than if you used only one board expansion with the same number of investigators. I'm not saying a Common Item is a great reward.

A common item is better than nothing, have you seen some of the Innsmouth rumors?

Yes.

"Here's your reward; you get devoured last! Isn't that nice?"
