Some Post-Highlands suggestions for the next set(s)

By Ommadawn, in Talisman

Hello! It is Saturday. I bought my copy of Highlands on Thursday and we played a game on Thursday/Friday nights (we had to have it run over two evenings since some of the guys had to work Friday morning). We had seven players and I won by reaching the middle and killing the Eagle King. We shuffled the six endings, put one face down so that we didn't know what it was, and luckily for me, I had the strength to combat and kill the Eagle King when I reached the space.

(There are currently six random endings. For the one that is supposed to play face up, Warlock Quests, we simply ruled that if you made it to the center and the random ending was the Warlock Quest, then the warlock would give you the three quests which you needed to complete to win the game. For other players to pick up their three quests to win the game, they would then have to make their way to the Crown of Command where the Warlock was now perched in order to pick up their quests.)

During the course of the game, I went through the Highlands board twice and the Dungeon board twice on my way to the center. The Highlands board is a great middle-level character board and it works very well in that regard with the Dungeon board being for the higher-level characters.

Anyways, today I was sitting here shuffling my cards (they're all sleeved) while looking at the game components at the same time and I thought that I would post some suggestions and comments.

I like the Highlands expansion. The new endings are great, the characters are great and The Highlands Board and cards work very well for what they are. However, we needed some more stuff.

Assuming that the expansions continue in the small/big alternating format as they have been, the next small expansion gives the opportunity to add some of that stuff.

Thus far, the expansions have gone:

1. The Reaper (A small expansion, basically a reprint of Talisman: The Expansion from 2nd Edition with some new stuff as well).

2. The Dungeon (A big expansion, basically a redo in the new larger L-style corner board of the 2nd Edition expansion).

3. Frostmarch (A small expansion, basically a reprint of Talisman: The Adventure with some new stuff as well).

4. The Highland (A big expansion, basically a redo of the 3rd Edition Mountain board in the larger L-style corner board.)

Thus far, they have been reprinting the older expansions while updating them and adding new life and flavor to them. This has been great. However, if they intend to keep the same small/big expansion set release pattern, then they have almost run out of small expansions available to reprint. What they have left is:

- Timescape ( Big expansion)

- The City ( Big expansion)

- The Forest ( Big expansion)

- The Tower ( Big expansion)

- Dragons ( Small expansion)

As you can see, there is only one more small expansion that they can reprint. All of the rest require boards, so they would be large expansions. Thus, they need some more small expansion scenarios).

What I would like to see in the future:

- The five as-of-yet-not-reprinted expansion sets reprinted, with, of course, the appropriate cards, more characters, more adventure cards and more spells. (Please reprint Timescape!)

- More random endings (The Horrible Black Void, The Dance Macabre, The Belt of Hercules, etc.)

- More Relics (there were only four!)

- More of the basic components: More gold, more dice, more life, strength and craft cones and more fate counters.

- The character sheets/placemats from 2nd edition (Talisman: The Adventure expansion, I believe).

- The master level characters from 2nd edition.

Here is one way in which this could be done:

Light & Dark: (small expansion) I believe that there has been talk about a light/dark fate small expansion, so that could do for the next small one.

The City: (big expansion) In the next big expansion, probably The City, could you please include 12 of the character sheets/placemats? You would need a large box for the sheets, so they won't fit in a small expansion. They're just so good for newer players (and they're good when you have a lot of players in order to keep things organized).

Legion: (small expansion) Please, could this small expansion include 6 more dice, 50 more gold and a new set of cones and fate counters? It could simply be an expansion to increase the number of players from 6 to 12 (much like the Settlers of Catan 5&6 player expansions). I would be willing to pay $30 for such an expansion. (I just don't want to repurchase the base game in order to procure these items at $60.) It should have some new characters in it as well (as all of the expansions should).

The Forest: (big expansion).

Dragons: (small expansion).

The Tower: (big expansion).

Enemies: (small expansion) An expansion of nothing but cards (and a few new characters, of course). It would have like 10 new Relic cards, 10 new adventure cards, 10 new forest cards, 10 new city cards, 10 new dungeon cards, 10 new spell cards, 10 new highland cards, 10 new treasure cards, 10 new ending cards, 10 new warlock quest cards, etc..

Timescape: (big expansion).

They could keep doing expansion after expansion after this, but this schedule (for the next eight expansions) would make me so happy. Anyways, I hope that there are some good suggestions in here that they pick up. We need this stuff. :) :) :)
