This is the worse possible news for the game :(

Don't worry about them; they'll just go with the next version and wonder why some grognards rushed to buy up the last scraps od s dead game. It's happened several times (with Star Wars alone), and it'll happen again.

It’s almost as if one’s enjoyment of a game isn’t dependent upon its active publication, right?

Crazy, innit?

I still hold some hope that whatever is going on at FFG that caused this will get fixed and we get some good news...Hope springs eternal. But if not I will be satisfied with what we have.

Something just occurred to me. If there was only RPG functionality in the dice app, I could see it folding with the range. But with X-Wing and Armada functionality and those two lines going strong, why would the pull the app? The RPG might be dead, but the app has to be a mistake.

Back up your APKs anyway.

This saddens me, especially since I am not in a financial position to start gobbling up the books I want and don't know if I will be before they start disappearing entirely.

I do however like to keep things on the bright side. I do have The Edge of the Galaxy. It might only cover one part of what's available in the Star Wars universe, but it is a big part. I could have a ton of good roleplaying with just that book. Also, I have a character generator that gives me clues as to what the other books have, and my current GM has a large number of books. With time and effort, I could extrapolate a lot of what I don't have well enough for my own purposes. Besides, I still have my WEG Star Wars books with which I can use to cover ideas that can't be covered by FFG.

On top of that, Star Wars is the only game I am interested in running or playing. There are so many games to choose from right now that this is a golden age for gamers, and with the option of online gaming options available, you aren't even limited to the tastes of your local community. Regardless of what you are into, it is possible to find a gaming group that meets your tastes and needs.

Could it be tied to the shutdown of FFG Interactive?

Yeah, I don’t get this whole “dead game” bs.
It is now a complete game that is, by its very nature, boundless. If you need something to be actively published in order to have fun with it, then perhaps you are not in it for the same reasons that I am.

yeah if they didnt complete the line I could understand. but since they have pretty much completed the whole line with a couple extra's I dont see the issue.

Well, it's not so much that I need a constant flow of books and support to make the game enjoyable. My group played the D6 engine for years after WEG went under.

The community, on the other hand, has been a huge help. If its not a live, ongoing product (even if it's slowed WAAAAAY down), the podcasts and youtube streams will slowly go away, forums get shut down and fans of the game slowly disperse. Sure there will be pockets of old timers - the D6 forum on reddit is still pretty lively - but it'll be a step down from where we are at.

It will also likely result in more piracy as legitimate sources for the material will be unavailable.

That assumes interest in the games continues or even increases. That is hardly a given. Those that were into the game when it was alive probably already have most of what they need/want, and those that were not into the game probably do too.

Then there's that grey area of what is piracy and what is abandonware? Technically all those WEG books over on The Holochron are piracy, but being long out of print and impossible to find - but if it comes down to (a) having a game be lost forever and (b) having it available via piracy, I support piracy*. None of the game makers are seeing roylty checks from those old books anymore, so it's not really hurting anyone.

*In this one instance.

I predict this game will die out faster than most oop lines due to the need for special dice. Sure, you could use the conversion chart, but it's a pain in the butt. And it looks like the app is MIA too...

Well, here's one more bad sign. Today I swung by the FLGS and picked up 3 more sets of dice just for the very reason that Happy cited. One of the sets had it's clamshell cracked and was missing one yellow. Oh well, I figure. I'll get a replacement from FFG - they've always been good about replacing busted minis and missing widgets. As of yesterday, they are no longer replacing parts, claiming that they have too many games to support doing that.

Yeah, I'm seeing right through your bullshit, FFG Asmodee. You didn't want to pay the CS guys anymore.

Asmodee folded the sub-company customer service depts into one including FFG's last month. It is Asmodee who have decided to change the replacement policy.

*Jedi Mind Trick*

That's what I said. Asmodee. I don't know where you got that other idea!

So, what you are saying is an entrepreneur should begin designs for some dice with symbols that are somewhere in-between the Genesys and Star Wars symbols in recognizability?

Brilliant! That is a kickstarter waiting to happen. I have never liked the symbol choices for either game line, they make zero sense (except maybe the Triumph symbol for SW). Heck, you could use emojis, they're free:

😀 = success

😎 = Triumph

😉 = Advantage

🙁 = Threat

😳 = Failure

😱 = Despair

So because there are no more books coming, the RPG is dead and no players should have access to the app and can't play anymore ever again?
Because that is so far from the truth...

People can still play. ****, I am just starting to scratch the surface with this RPG. And perhaps 5 years from now, I will still be playing some SWRPG games and I might need dice.
It's not because there is a DND 5E that people are suddenly no longer player 3.5E or 4E. It is not forbidden. The books exist. Go and play! Enjoy yourself!

Well, I really hope that the forums will remain.
Or at least that there is an alternative to the FFG forums for Star Wars.

Over in one of the Genesys facebook groups I'm a member of, there's somebody already doing just that. at least with regards to symbols. Granted, said symbols bear more resemblance to what Genesys uses, but the momentum is there.

Probably wouldn't be too difficult to take said symbols, array them in a manner similar to the old EotE Beta sticker sheet (which one may still be able to grab off the EotE product support page, and just overlay the symbols on those), so that folks can have a sticker sheet of such printed out and then applied to the appropriate dice.

It's not ideal, but it is a method of providing physical dice to be rolled for those new players who prefer physical dice as opposed to the variety of online dice rollers to be found.

Group think is pretty common here too.

Have you seen the TLJ/TRoS threads?
