homebrew Mando special forces

By Sparty1701, in Star Wars: Legion

So I really want to run a homebrew skirmish involving a mandalorian squad. So I'm thinking-

Special forces

3 Units (plus 1 upgrade using something like a Z6 or perhaps a sniper rifle (no disintegrations) )

Health 2 Morale 2

Surge to Crit and Shield

Red defence die

Move 3

Key words: Jump 2, Impervious, Steady (to allow them to shoot while jetpacking which we saw in the Mandolorian.

Very keen to have thoughts (and have no idea of a points value).

Skullforge has some great models for this by the way (until we get an FFG version).

Here's my idea for a Mandalorian squad:

Death Watch

Corps

3 units

Red defense dice

speed 2

Vibro knife: Melee 1 red 1 black

Westar- 35: range 1-2 1 red, 1 black

Upgrades:

Extra trooper

Heavy weapons

Armament

Gear

Keywords: Beskar: Add 1 block result when you defend against a ranged attack

They would come with armament upgrades like:

Whistling Birds:

Flame Thrower:

Blaster Rifle:

Gear upgrades would include:

Jet pack:

Whipcord:

My idea behind this is to make them a corps so you could create a legal army out of them. They would be on the expensive side of things to keep their numbers limited. They would be able to serve in any role that the current corps do depending on the armament upgrade taken.

So what cost were you thinking of? Because this is basically boba fett in unit form. So it should be in the ballpark of 140 points. The steady is actually a very powerfull addition and the lack of arsenal is countered by having at least 3 units who I assume do more than 1 black per unit. So this would be a pretty costly unit.

guess i'm thinking of having it comparable to wookies - mobility being the key thing so perhaps not great hitting. I like the idea of keyword "beskar" perhaps that is what generates a surge to block? Was thinking less of the special gizmos (which would be reserved for a Manalorian "operative)"

75 points for a boba fett unit, that can jump movement range 3 from a height 2 terrain, perform an attack and then jump move back again out of harms way... I don't think that is really a good option. So if you ask for an opinion, then my opinion is that this would be an overpowered unit. Loose the surge on defense, make offensive surge convert to hits, make movement range 2 and attack 1 black and 1 white or even 2 white and we are getting somewhere.

Edit:
Let me correct myself, you can't jump twice, but still making a 3 move with the ability to jump and then perform a free attack is way to strong

Sadly, I have to agree. A mandalorian unit would have to be either insanely expensive or they will have to be toned down a ton from what they should be. If they were as good as @Sparty1701 said and any less than around 160 points then they would break the game. Doubt we'll ever get mandalorians that will live up to how awesome they are. Except possibly the Mandalorian himself as an operative...guess I'll have to cry in the corner with a hardly suitable substitute of Boba Fett until then

I just want to point out that, based on Boba and Sabine, Mandalorian armor has been quantified as a red save with a defensive surge and Impervious, so there's not really a need to make a Beskar keyword.

Defense dice color depends on more than armor (i.e. evasion, force)... Or how can you explain Palp having red+surge or rebel troops having white+surge even though they only wear normal clothes?

So it's still possible that mandalorian armor gives you only red dice without surge...

Hey Guys! My 2 cents here...

Mandalorian Hunter
Rank: Trooper
Unit Number: 1
Defense: Red, surge to block
Health: 3
Bravery: 2
Heavy Weapon Slot
Extra Trooper slot
Weapon Slot
Gear Slot
Training

Weapons
Mandalorian Rifles(Range 1-3)
2x Black
Pierce 1

Hand to hand combat(melee)
2x Black

Keywords
<action> Jump 2
Impervious

Heavy Weapons
Mandalorian Gunslinger(range 1-2)
Red, Black, White
Pierce 1

Mandalorian Sharpshooter(range 1-4)
Red, 2x White
Pierce 1

That's my take on them, changes, suggestions, points?

So with an extra trooper and a sniper you would have a 9 health squad with red+surge defense and an attack pool of 1 red, 4x black, 2x white with Pierce 3! They better cost about 250 points XD

These are way to strong for none character models. I would make them more like mobile death troopers. I think they are a good reference. Cut the Precise and Discipline and give them jump and another fitting keyword.

I meant to cut off the pierce from the base troopers... so would that help much?
