With the end of the Sequel Trilogy, what does this mean for the sequel factions?

By Koing907, in X-Wing

Considering that Rise of Skywalker is the last sequel film, will there be anymore ships for FFG to adapt for X-Wing Miniatures?

Will the cartoons/EU provide enough content?

Will the First Order and Resistance just kinda fade away?

Will the Last Order be a new faction for X-Wing? :D

I don't think we have too much to worry about for the foreseeable future.

Just off the top of my head, TRoS alone adds 3 Resistance ships and 3 First Order (Last Order won't be a thing). Once you factor in ships that havent been printed from earlier content like the FO Shuttle or T-85 potentially, it'll be at least a year before we see even most of those. In that time we may see some more ships as well.

They will likely be the smallest 2 factions by a significant margin however

That the Skywalker Saga is done doesn't mean that the setting of the First Order and Resistance is done. Just as additional movies and cartoons in the OT time (Solo, Rogue One, Star Wars: Rebels) added content, there is more space for more content to be added to both factions.

The Mandalorian series that is still running right now has had the New Republic forces show, which I could see being added to either the Rebels or Resistance. While the year is closed to RoTJ than TFA, I do think New Republic ships would have more of a place in the Resistance.

I don't think that the Last Order will be a faction, itself, but I do think that we will see the Last Order ships that made the appearance in RoS added into the First Order faction.

Imagine thinking Disney doesn’t have plans to make more money.

Right now, It seems that Disney is planning to make money during the Galactic Civil War Era. The Mandalorian might be straddling the line between OT an ST, but the other announced material is Cassian Andor during the GCW and Obi-Wan which straddles the lin between PT and OT.

A. Yes.

B. I suspect. As mentioned above there are plenty of ships from the final movie, and still several options from the Resistance cartoon. Stuff will continue to be developed for the ST era, I'm sure.

C. Well, no. First of all, Empire and Rebels are considered "complete factions," and they are not fading away. I'm betting that 10-15 ships is going to be the "holding capacity" for a faction to be complete. . .more ships just kinda becomes redundant, mechanics-wise. Now that card packs are a thing, factions can be kept fresh with new pilots and no new ships needed. Obviously, a new ship is the cooler option, but no longer necessary.

D. Last Order = First Order, I'd bet. My dream would be to see New Republic and Imperial Remnant created as Legends factions; there are a lot of cool designs lying about and I suspect plenty of older fans would like to see the Star Wars of the 1990s be a part of the game. As above, as factions reach "saturation," I would think it would be easier for FFG to fill out another new faction than try to shoehorn more material into a faction that has a score of ships already.

Based on the 1 scene where the Resistance forces arrived the ship additions for the resistance are unlimited, you see almost every ship that the rebels have used previously.

After watching the movie last night, here are my thoughts.

First order: before forces are set, player using FO loses the game. Why? Barely got thier forces off the ground.

Resistance: you may use any rebel, resistance, republic ships from any other game. Deploy them as your own. You can only do this when your final ship is left. No point limit.

Well the other two trilogies ended decades ago, so why is it a ST issue?

It's not! That's the funny part.

Nah but in all seriousness, OP...

T-85, B-Wing, NR2 Y-Wing, a chunk for Epic.
TIE Dagger, TIE/wi, Kylo Ren's TIE/wi, Xi Shuttle.

Not counting all the stuff in the Resistance TV show, too! Like those WILL all get in eventually, this, one can count on. Lotta' cool stuff there.

Why stop there?? JJ has worked with other IPs:

And why not some he hasn't:

I'd be legit surprised if we don't see any of these actors reprise characters in future movies or Disney+ shows. Keri Russell sounds like she would do backflips if asked to play Zorii Bliss again.

the first order was such a narrative and worldbuilding failure that Disney will likely try to forget it in the hopes fans do the same.

The Resistance at least has the "Resistance" show ships to pull from, which mostly rule.

The FO will get the Dumb TIE-rAnGL or TIE-Rowel or whatever that hideous design-by-commitee thing is called, but everything else they had was just a dumb SUPER MEGA BIG BOY DEATHSTROYER XXXL!

as a faction theyre tapped

First Order bomber, TIE Whisper, TIE Dagger, 🤘Night Buzzard🤘, drop ship. That's just off the top of my head; I'm sure there's more.

And the even better news is, with the rate that FFG releases ships for First Order, 5 ships are enough to ensure that FO will still be getting new ship releases in 2030!

Don't worry, there is enough content for the sequel factions (mostly because of Resistance):

Now that the sequel trilogy is done...

ALL remaining factions will BOW to the FIRST ORDER!

I would expect so.

"Sith Cultist" as a pilot might well allow a 'generic force user' equivalent of the Inquisitor or Jedi Knight.

That's interesting - and worth noting. I didn't register there were two versions of the Whisper. I remember the ships chasing the falcon in the hyperskip sequence don't have cog-wheels (like /sf) but I can't recall if they had underslung pods. If they're Whispers that makes more sense.

thanks @Odanan!

First Order TIE Bomber and the Xi Shuttle are super neat, I really want those two.

I guess this is maybe a sort of hot take but Resistance Y is pretty neat, like, maybe unironically my favorite Y-Wing. I'd be super down for those.

There will be another trilogy where the remnants of The Final Order recompose as The Ultimate Order and make a base that turns a black hole into a super gun. They will be bested by the Resurgence. As such, we will get new TIEs, Xs, As, etc with slight mods, different paint, and the cool new “advanced tech” slot.

Generic sith would be cool to have on TIEs, I wonder if they'd be swarmable. They honestly don't seem to be much better than a TIE/ln, except maybe either 3 attack or cannon slot.

And yes, those were the standard whispers at the beginning during the hyerpskipping. I'd have to watch it again to see if they had the pods but they did have the extra frame bits.

I feel that if we draw solely on new (well, as new as the rest of the ST) ships, the resistance and FO can be solid factions with enough choices to be interesting. I don’t expect them I ever “catch up” to the OT factions in model count.

I am ok with that. I can see 10-12 ships being interesting design space long term, especially as point adjustments reset what’s over costed or playable.

But my guess is Disney ditches the ST, especially if So 9 doesn’t do as well as they want. They’ll keep telling stories closer to the OT, which has largely sold super well.

Given how the heavy laser works, I've wondered if you might have something akin to the Nantex - giving them a primary-3 but only in the bullseye. The net effect would be a ship not a million miles away from the Calibrated Laser Targeting Delta Aethersprite.

Heck, we might even get new factions if the rumors of new fiction being set in the High Republic era.

If the new setting is several centuries remote from the Clone Wars, it would feel pretty ridiculous for them to share pilots, so I can see them considering it.

Disney probably have the ability to lean on FFG and say "you will push our new stuff" if they want to and frankly if the new material grabs people's attention I can't see them not wanting to cash in on the hype.

Until we know what they're actually doing it's hard to guess; they spoke about "exploring the unknown regions" which could be anything from "Holy **** Teh Sith Empirez!!!" and an actual Star War a la clone wars to something that looks more like Star Trek With Lightsabers.
