The Death Star conference room meeting in A New Hope , Darth Vader’s multiple cut aways on the Executor in The Empire Strikes Back , and the arrival of Vader and The Emperor in Return of the Jedi are ‘politics’ and not action, but are some of my favorite scenes in cinema.

All the prequel stuff had way more political commentary or talk about politics (in or out of the movies)

I would prefer more adventures and characters you can actually root for

Yeah the whole series was based on flash Gordon style episodes , right down to thecrawls, and often I feel it should have stayed with that premise. The OT stood the test of time with most people saying it was as the best of the three trilogies but few people disliked it , unlike the ST and PT which has some very vocal detractors. I know standards have improved I've the years but having the original trilogy stand the test of time is actually quite a feat.

Do not make it The Adventures of Young Yoda.

Introduce new interesting characters and have familiar characters be in the background or in 1-2 episodes a season as support as best

They're politics in action.

The problem with the PT is that they mostly talk 'about' politics, and mostly just kvetching about political actions that would be more compelling if they were simply 'shown' and the audience had to understand their import.

It's a basic premise of making visual storytelling compelling. The PT frequently fails in this regard, and the dialogue is notoriously bad. Could it be punched up...frequently? Sure. Many (although not all) of the story beats aren't necessarily bad in and of themselves.

I agree wholeheartedly, and the political action/views of the characters can be borne out by their actions; you don't have to have monologues about it. (I'm looking at you Anakin and Padme).

THE ERA

• “The High Republic” is set around 200 years before The Phantom Menace .
• “It’s a golden time,” says Michael Siglain, Creative Director, Lucasfilm. “A time of peace and prosperity… a time when the Jedi really are galactic guardians, stewards of peace and justice.”
• The Jedi of the High Republic era are like the Jedi Knights of the Round Table.
• There is a Wild West element to the era. The galaxy is not as “settled” as it is during the Skywalker Saga. It is also a time of “greatly expanded Jedi activity.” The Jedi play a law enforcement type role.
• The borders of the Republic will be threatened by a new villain. The new villains are called the Nihil (Nile) and they are described as being like “space Vikings.” Their motto? “You can’t take it with you, but we can take it from you.” They are designed to be very different from the Empire and the First Order. “They’re not a bunch of uniformed soldiers serving a higher purpose.” Something much more “punk rock.” “They’re unified, but they’re also all out for themselves.” The Nihil are said to be able to use hyperspace in a very dangerous way.
• We may see a middle-aged Yoda, in his prime.
• Star Wars isn’t just about the Jedi. We will also see new smugglers, and new bounty hunters.
• There will be a core group of heroes that will expand over time.

This was canon all along: the Clone Wars tv show had a story arc with some Younglings and the process of building one’s lightsaber; one of the younglings was a Wookie.

@ the greater topic itself: I am cautiously optimistic. This could be fun, but if the writing is bad it could be terribad. I don’t recognize the authors involved (aside from knowing they’ve done new canon books before, but I haven’t read them). Hoping Yoda is at most a cameo and not recurring everywhere.
