Next Big Expansion - The City

By burst2, in Talisman

I think the next big expansion will be the City. Why? Because The Dungeon, The Highland and (probably) The Forrest are very similar corner boards compared to the City expansion.

- I think we reached the "break-even-point" of similar corners with The Highland. If Forest is the next big expansion it would not bring a big change.

- Everybody expects City to be next and if The Forrest ist next everybody would be dissapointed.

- There is so much gold going on right now that we need a place to spend it somewhere.

- Due to the release system (buttom-left Corner Board, up-right Corner Board) the next logical direction would be buttom, right?

- There is so much nature going on you can actually hear the board screaming for civilisation like - The City

Or do you see indicators for a Forrest expansion?

I am not.

I agree that the next big expansion should be the City expansion.

We need something where we can spend our gold.

We have already a City expansion topic where people are gathering their idea's here

Feel free to post there. happy.gif

There is also a Wishlist what you like to see in the City expansion. You can find it here

I think that redoing the city is a must as the amount of gold one can acquire in the highlands is substantial. My wife and myself played our first game with the new board tonight and she picked up lots of trinkets that meant she got eleven gold at the alchemist as soon as she reached the city... now if only she had had some good stuff to spend it on. I would agree that I don't find the idea of a new version of the forest to be exciting. I'd like to see an official talisman island :) The only problem is that I can't think what space would connect it to the main board. Maybe the village could have a harbour at the back.

Although I love the City concept, I would be happy to wait another two years (!) if that's how long it takes to ensure it is well-designed. 2nd Edition City was both too complicated and strangely dull. I don't know 3rd Edition very well, though I have heard few players raving about the City. Also, as an aside, can we please have some female inhabitants this time? Apart from the Enchantress on the board, there is only Dancing Girl featured on the cards!

I see no reason why a forest expansion couldn't be a fantastic set, if it is done right and lessons are learned from The Dungeon and The Highland. The right balance of challenge, innovation, fun, flavour and nostalgia. Spiders which can spin webs. Varied terrain (not just clearings and tracks, but some pools and bogs also). Plenty of faerie folk, wild elves, carnivorous plants, a stone circle and a gingerbread cottage! I would hope also that a forest-based set will include rules for archery and will be a showcase for Enemy Elementals.

I think that Forest needs to be the next expansion. The City will be a place, which will gather all the stuff from previous expansions, all the Purchase cards from previous expansions (like Mirror Shield (brrr... such a mythical object taken from Legends of Zelda series and sooooo weak <_< )) in one place. Forest probably will feature something new as well, so if the City will be next, it won't have features and cards from the Forest. Forest will be, like I mentioned in another topic, a great place for magical Characters, who has a lot of Craft and nothing of Strength. Also, that's the last place, where Elementals will be available (unless FFG will release The Elementals Expansion Set, which will be like old Dragons Expansion Set).

I agree with Nemo,

But it depends what FFG is going to do with the City expansion.

They can make unique purchase cards (weapons, armour, potions etc) that are only available in the City.

I hope that there is a wide selection of purchase cards, so people can spend their gold.

Curiously, the only 2nd Edition set with Elementals was the City: Fire, Water, Air and Earth.

Hey Nemo,

Maybe a bit off topic, but have you play the legend of zelda series too?

I am a freak, but you should know that, because the information stands in my profile from youtube lengua.gif

I see you around gran_risa.gif

Well... not the first time, and I'm sure not the last time we are discussing there different *Talisman related* things gui%C3%B1o.gif

I don't recall You being a fan of Zelda, but it is nice to know that gran_risa.gif

I'm rather "handheld-boy", so I love the old ones than the newest ones. My most favorite one is Oracle of Ages. And I really hate Ocarina of Time (mostly because I hate 3D and love 2D). The next one is Link's Awakening DX (I love Ballad of the Windfish, I have some different versions of it on my playlist), then Oracle of Seasons. Except of that I also like A Link to the Past (SNES version, that GBA version is weird, I tried it, and I dropped it sad.gif ) and Minish Cap. Once I made few Characters from to Talisman based on Zelda:

Nayru

Farore

Din

Young Link

Twinrova

Veran

Onox

Agahnim

Captain Stalfos (You know, that one, who had a bad luck, and once was imprisoned and while later his ship became damaged gui%C3%B1o.gif )

I think You can bet which Zelda I love the most xD

oke, so Oracle of Ages is your favorite... lengua.gif I like Twilight Princess the most.

Let's get back on-topic

I'd prefer to see the Forest first. I have a City from 2nd Ed, but don't have 3rd ed.
