It's notable that certain critical effects can alter the overall result of the attack, especially Hull Breach or Structural Damage . Since these critical effects would come into play during the "roll attack dice" step, they take effect immediately. Structural Damage instantly reduces your opponents' total green dice, while Hull Breach or Fuel Leak makes the immediate dice results much more (unexpectedly!) dangerous.

Correction, it makes the uncancelled die results more dangerous. But yes. Thane flipping one of those face up during his attack would make that attack more potentially deadly.
