Valkyrie resurrect ability - when a Follower is killed?

By Croonos, in Talisman

Despite it is revised 4th editon of Talisman we still get some obscurities - what does it mean that Follower is killed? Resurrection abbility is refered only to killed and discarder followers from any character. That is ok because she would be overpowered if she can take any discarded followers (Hag, Hieromartyr, St. Josephine etc). The only problem is to specify word kill which is not key word in Talisman and Highland rules say nothing about that.
I think Valkyrie can resurfect followers killed by Gladiator's opponent, Vampire Prince, Soul Drinker, Chasm when the word kill is occured. I am not sure about Leper, Warewolf Den, Warewolf, Reaper, etc... It should be clarified in updated FAQ.

I should say that everything that says (Killed) can be resurrected.

Discarding followers is not killed in my eyes..

The Chasm can kill followers

Gladiator should also work. Because you kill those followers demonio.gif

Even if you only allow her to resurrect when specifically stated "killed" (which is how I feel it should be, no-no on just discard), you can get a stalemate ending with the CoC. IIRC, if Valkyrie has Champion and Faithful Hound she can use first as Str 3 in battle, the other as Craft 3 in psychic combat (I think that's what those Followers do, not 100% and too lazy to check). Both also specifically state they are killed if they lose, so Valkyrie herself wouldn't get involved in the combats, she'd just sit back and resurrect whichever Follower happens to die. Of course, getting both of those Followers is another task alltogether.

I've checked it and Faithful Hound has strength too. So she'll be save in battles only.

I wonder if this edition have been planed with with refering to future expansions? If so, stalemates should have been avoided and rules cleared. Why trinkets was added just now and lots of past rings, elixirs etc. are treat as normal objects?

Speaking as someone who plays (sucks at... but plays) chess, I still don't get the aversion to stalemates. From chess all the way to some computer games, a stalemate can be a perfectly acceptable outcome in the core rules of that game and not a failing of the game.

Still, using my not quite super-powered ability to do home rules, well, since there are some cards that have mitigation on them (ex: No Teleport in inner region, no assassination on the CoC), for those that hate stalemates, have this global home rule = if there is any Stalemate condition (Valkyrie with hound, good character with poltergeist + Chapel), when someone reaches the CoC, any stalematers automatically lose, and the "Legit" players win.

Personally, don't know why needed, but there you go. All end-game stalemates avoided.

Because the base game works just fine with those cards as they are, and the use of Trinkets in the Highland adds a little more in terms of variety. Of course, it might be argued that the Potion of Strength and Magic Ring should really be Trinkets, but it does not hurt the game in any way. I had pondered making updated cards to replace the ones that might be considered Trinkets, but really don't think it is necessary.

Oh, and for those that are having trouble with the wording of the Valkyrie, don't get too hung up on keywords. If you just take a moment to consider what the use of the word "killed" implies, then it will all be fine. A Follower that "shuffles off to the discard pile" or whatever is most likely not killed, though if one is fed to a Vampire or falls down a Chasm, then the chances are that they are most definitely an "ex Follower".

Yes, this sounds logically! By the way Valkyrie with Champion or Faithful Hound is very nasty demonio.gif
