Superstitions and Bugga Boos

By KingmanHighborn, in X-Wing

When list building? When playing the game? Even the wait between rounds at tournaments, I'm curious to what superstitions and ticks people have in the realm of X-wing.

For me when list building I just can't leave an astromech slot unfilled (well I can, but I 'feel' awful), and while my best 1.0 list was one, I have trouble feeling comfortable with soup lists. (i.e. a list with a mix of single ships), I prefer to have at least a pair of 'something' x1s, v1s, X-wings, etc. etc.

As far as playing the game, my dice MUST be in a Crown Royale bag. I can not/will not use any dice that doesn't come out of a CR bag. I know some people prefer a dice pool or whatever, but fine, it goes in a CR bag and is drawn out of the bag, rolled and goes back in. That's about the only really odd quirk of mine.

Between rounds, I generally watch other games finishing up, and I like to take pics of people's ships when they have unique paint schemes.

So what's yours?

lucky dice. my green dice r reaally good. my red dice, not so much but i tend to stick with them.

Whenever my Bugga boos I remind him it's poor sportsmanship.

Otherwise, I'm not superstitious and don't believe bugaboos are real.

? How is it poor sportsmanship if I mind asking?

It was a play on words.

I'm not really superstitious but I did notice that for the first couple of tournaments I ended up wearing the same Lorde t-shirt with a massive floral print on the back so I just continued wearing that if I can, or another floral print. Turns out a lot of bands use similar designs. Or I own far too many band t-shirt. Probably that.

I have more Star Wars T-shirts than is probably healthy, even for your average Star Wars fan. But I always try to coordinate my shirt to match whatever list I’m flying that day. I’ve got a TIE Fighter PEW PEW PEW shirt that I wear when flying imperials, a boba fett shirt I wear when flying scum, an X-Wing/A-Wing shirt I wear for Resistance, and so on.

Never really had one. Did know a pair of ADND players, who just HAD to arrange their dice so the 1's were all face up, regardless of if they were d4, 6s, 8s, 12s or otherwise.. And would have to WASH a die if someone else touched it... One gal, (i think she was ocd), had to twirl a pen, three times, before clicking it to use..

Not sure if those count.

Is the droid thing because of the lore that ships with an astromech slot need the droid to fully function? I used to have that, then I mentally filled in the vacant slot with a generic cheap-trash droid that doesn't provide any game effects.

Wha.... I dont even know how to respond to this. Is this a thing?

When my dice are on the side of the table, I will flip them to hits/evades, but not crits because then I feel like I'm asking for too much.

If the dice are in a pool, I will only roll the ones showing a hit/evade if possible

I have one of those "You May Fire When Ready" buttons that makes the pew pew sounds when I hit it. I have to whack mine a couple times before every attack.

I'm a little obsessive about my play area; how my cards are set up, where my token tray is, setting my pool of dice on top of the bag of unused dice, and how my templates are lain out. If I'm playing on a cramped table and things aren't fitting in the room I need, it throws me off.

I also like to take photos of my squad with the beer I'm drinking that day, then post to IG for fun.

I make ship noises.

I don't like shaking hands; I'll do it, but I'm a germaphobe and also view it as an outdated tradition. I prefer a fist-bump or dance-off.

I'm not superstitious, these are more like compulsions, than tics... and certainly anyone with a tick should remove it safely ASAP and check for lyme disease. 🐜 🐜 🐜

So when it came time for me to get a bag for my GPS for my car a few years back, I figured I had a choice: I could buy a bag at Target or wherever for $20. Or I could buy a bag at the liquor store that came with a free bottle of Crown Royal.

Whenever a bomb explodes and there's no one near it to take damage, I quote De La Soul: It might blow up, but it won't go pop.

Whenever I go to a major event I always take Backdraft. The fiery fanatic has been my favorite pilot since 1.0. Even the year I played scum I still packed backdraft even though I wasn't going to use him.

Even when playing Rebels???? How do your opponents feel about that?

I've never tried rebels at a big event, I would still pack him though.

It would be a neat casual event to let people run one out of faction ship as a defector though.

1: I always use my 2.0 core set red dice. They look better and seem to roll VERY well.

2: On a similar note, I always take all 12 of each dice that I own with me to games. And with greens I roll different ones each time I defend.

3: I never take a bid of more than 2 points. Can't be bothered with all that, and would rather use the cards I've paid for.

4: I try and wear a shirt that matches my faction I'm playing with at events. Being a SW fan who loves t-shirts makes that rather easy.

5: I also try and have a list-matching image as my phone background/lock screen during events.

6: I had a lucky pair of pants, but they got old and died. Need to discover a new pair.

Whenever possible, I roll my smokey hyperspace trial dice even if they betray me because I just like the fact that I won dice once in my life. :)

Just saw one guy who posted about his local group's running of tournaments. First and 2nd place get prizes.

LAST Place, gets given a new set of Dice!

If don't consider a list finished unless it is exactly 198 points.

The only real thing I have is asking that we use shared dice pools (a controversial subject I know), and I immediately feel annoyed if the opponent flat out refuses.

Also, I absolutely hate some of the prize dice (gray attack dice with red paint) because we play in a dimly lit area normally and I can't see the results clearly.

But other than that I think I just take the game as it comes.
