Turrets and Moldy Crow

By Spattsgt, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Good day all,

Moldy Crow upgrade card allows to gain a primary weapon with a value of 3. Now in the card it show the front arc. The HWK only primary weapon is a turret. So does the front arc of a HWK become 3 and the rest of the arcs two. Or is three for all four arcs because the primary weapon is a turret

The forward firing arc is a 3 attack due to Moldy Crow. It can then rotate to any three other directions and attack with a value of 2 using its primary turret.

No offense, I don’t know if you’re new but turrets are not 360 degrees anymore. So the front V arc is 3 reds, and you use a turret arc indicator to select on of the other 3 quads for a 2 die gun.

Which means the hawk has roughly 180 degree coverage. #mostimprovedship 😜

The front arc has a 3 attack primary. Its turret remains the same 2 attack primary, wherever the turret is pointed (including the front, but i dont know of any abilities where that is relevant for this ship).

And JB is correct. Turret weapons in 2E are not 360. They choose 1 of the 4 90 degree arcs. In the case of dual turrets, they choose one direction, and have a turret the in the opposite direction.

Another point of confusion, perhaps: you can have more than one “primary” weapon in 2.0. Examples: Lancer, Nantex, TIE/sf, Lambda, Firespray, ARC 170, etc...

Moldy Crow gives the HWK an additional forward-facing primary weapon which is completely separate to its normal turret primary. During engagement, you can choose to fire one weapon, so you can use either the 3-dice front-arc weapon or the 2-dice turret.

It's actually possible to have the turret pointed forwards even when you have Moldy Crow , but usually you would point it backwards or to the side to cover an area the front-arc weapon does not - if a target is in front of you there's not really a reason to use the weaker turret weapon.

The HWK itself doesnt have a reason to, no. Y-wings however, with Vet Turret Gunner, can take advantage of that setup. Just to point out why someone would even want to.

Tho, with the Moldy Crow, you are paying alot for that front arc, so you're very likely doing so on a named pilot that cares about arcs. So spreading them out is more ideal.
