For the 2020 season, the Hyperspace Game Mode will be used for the System Open Series and the Coruscant Invitational. The first Store Championship season in 2020 will also be using Hyperspace Game Mode. On the other hand, the Extended Game Mode will be used for Prime Championships, Grand Championships, Continental Championships, and the World Championship

looks like ship and pilot rotation in hyperspace too.

That article is so OP, they should up its points in January!

A rotating, curated format is exactly what we hoped Hyperspace would become.

No mention of environmental cards is a little disappointing though.

They've stated twice on two different streams that the environmental cards would not be in any OP events.

Personally I am very happy with the structure, really happy hyperspace will get some decent local level support as well as some major events.

I’m liking how there’s now a healthy mixture of game modes at all levels of the tournament structure where this time last year it was pretty heavily slanted.

Also really happy that they will be keeping the LCQ format. No way I can win an actual qualifying event, so LCQ is my one shot at getting into worlds (and I can play side events if I fail anyway so all good!) :) Keeps worlds competitive while still making it accessible to the common man for celebrating the game.

I’m likin’ what I see. Very interested to see how far they’re taking the limitations on Hyperspace. 2020 is looking pretty good.

Yea. Still a good idea though.

Eh. I have some concerns about some of the environment cards. They could be disproven with some play, but until I see them more in action, I’m okay with FFG taking it slow with them.

So, what's the difference? Just that Hyperspace will be limited....like they always said it would be? *yawn*

I was hoping they would include Epic Battles in some for in Organized Play. No, it's just boring death match to continue.

If they added Epic Battles I would prefer Death Match there as well. So would most players, I imagine. Especially with these new streamlined mechanics.

Maybe the majority of current tournament players. I'm thinking you would probably get more players into OP events if you broadened it past death match.

Maybe this is the year I’ll finally play in a store event.

Kitchen Table Commandos, Rock-Rock On!

I think aces high is going to be a great test to see how people feel about variants. Its definitely more friendly for new players.

Stores are free to do whatever they want with their OP season kits or side events for their Prime Champs. But Epic never has and never will lend itself well to the official competitive track of Store Champ, Prime, Grand. Epic games still go far too long to allow a tournament with a reasonable amount of rounds.

Historically true, although I wonder how true that is for the 3x3 format epic missions that are barely larger than standard.

I mean, I don’t disagree that epic has challenges in a competitive atmosphere.

Depends on which battle. Epic isn't just dogfight at 500pts vs 500pts.

So I haven’t played X-Wing pretty much since Armada was released, other than one store monthly at the end of V1. What’s the difference with these two types of tournaments? Yes, looking to maybe get back into X-Wing casually.

Ship selection. Extended has every ship and card in game available. Hyperspace is the limited format with a smaller ship and upgrade pool. Still death match style.

"Epic" now just means Epic Battles. There are 11 scenarios, including Aces High. Surely you aren't saying that would take too long?

Hyper space, extended, world championship... dont really care about ANY of that. what kind of local store support are they doing for the casual player??? seems like they are catering to the 1% ? how about some themed scenario games? WITH FFG support? A Vs B squad can get kind of stale after awhile? granted its mitigated somewhat by the shear variety unless you go hyperspace... So just what are in the organized play kits.. Not the Hyperspace or extended stuff just the normal every day casual player stuff that will keep me and others coming into the store? I think month long themed scenario type games would be much better at attracting new and getting old players to come out. Similar to the way STAW USED to do if you are familiar with that game. each week have a different themed scenario that takes different builds ect to accomplish. Have a themed ship as a prize.. that is later sold as one of the reprints so folks wont go all hyper competitive or ***** about not being able to get the prize. the X squad Vs B squad gets kind of stale at times... They epic stuff is a step in the right direction...

They just released epic battles, a store kit that has Raider/C-R90 Alt Arts, and are releasing environment cards soon. More than likely the next store kits will have suggested formats for game nights that revolve around environment cards. Essentially they give the store the prizes, the store can do whatever format the players want for the prizes. You have the tools to have the game experience you so desire.

Yeah I heard about the epic stuff and have the epic battles box

Then what’s the problem? Some stores just open the standard store kit goodies and give them away to players who show up and play something.

Heck, that’s what FFG themselves do for the store kits!

So go on to the game store and play whatever mode floats your boat!

Our group just last week did an epic mission. Counted for our attendance purposes.

What are the Store kits for 2020 and when are they coming out? last years: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2019/3/29/x-wing-seasonal-play/ and what ever happened to "quick build"??? and the seasonal PRIME kits? https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2019/1/30/the-future-of-organized-play/ All i see and hear about is Hyperspace and worlds etc....

  • Seasonal Kits will support Open Play Nights and will reward players for their in-store participation. We want in-store events to be as accessible and welcoming to casual players as possible.
  • Local organizers may continue using Seasonal Kits to run Open Play Nights as tournaments if they so desire.
  • Most Seasonal Kits will come with enough prizes to support up to eight players through three months of weekly play. Some games may feature different prize structures, but will still support three months of play per kit.
  • The prize cards within Seasonal Kits will change each month. Participants will have the chance to earn multiple copies of most cards.
  • Changes to the pricing and distribution of our Seasonal Kits will make them easier for retailers to obtain and release on schedule.
  • icon-seasonal-premium.png Some games will also receive Seasonal Premium Kits in addition to their regular Seasonal Kits. Retailers and event organizers can use these Premium Kits to support their communities with additional gaming experiences, either casual or competitive. Players participating in events supported by these Premium Kits will contend for prizes that are a step up—a bit more "premium," if you will—than those included in the standard Seasonal Kits. never saw this??? unless this was/ were the "Coins" that were released??

With these new Seasonal Kits, you can expect support for both a more casual Open Play experience as well as plenty of materials to support in-store tournament play.
