Just wandering if the Imperial and Rebel Communtication Specialist are armed. They have weapons in hand, but their cards have no info on weapons damage. And if so, what is the damage? The Imperial guy is armed like a Stormtrooper, so a white dice? The Rebel one has a pistol, same damage as the Officer?
The Communtication Specialist, armed?
If they do not have "Non-combatant" then they are able to use a weapon, and in the absence of one on the upgrade card, they simply use the standard weapon available to the troopers.
Unless stated otherwise, every extra mini that can be added to a unit will always have access to the default weapons that the unit has. The comm specialists add an extra default die. Imp comm officers would add a white die if attached to a stormtrooper unit or a black die if added to a shoretrooper unit.
The officer minis also act the same way when attached to a unit. You don't get their weapons from when you take them as a Commander.
Thanks!
So to sumurise (and this will get important as the new upgrade packs roll out)
Unless stated in the trooper card upgrades text (such as non combatant) the upgrade adds all the benefits of the +1 mini card in addition to any abilities on the card.
Field communication specialist in real world militaries are (nearly) always armed as well. The unarmed Bard being a trope from the Elizabethan Romantic Era.
I found it interesting that card game the ISD Avenger which was the lead communications ship of the Imperial fleet at Endor had noted upgrades to its weapon batteries and communications array but not its shielding.

Then there was the era of musketry, in which they usually only got a sword.
