Token for Rex and Cham

By Beginner2Winner, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Dear all,

happy Christmas to all of you! While I had not the Starhawk below the Christmas tree, I have start to think about its use. One thing which puzzles me is if I can activate Cham Syndulla and Captain Rex with the same token.

Cham requires to spend one, Rex needs just that a command is used. So I would think yes, I can use both cards with one token but I am unsure.

Thanks for help!

You cannot use the same dial or token for both Rex and Cham.

Cham:

Quote

When you reveal a command, you may discard a [Squadron] dial or token and this card to...

Rex:

Quote

[Squadron]: You may choose 1 enemy ship at close range.

From the Rules Reference (page 5 - Effect Use and Timing):

Quote

Effects with a command icon as a header, such as “[Navigate]” can be resolved once while the ship is resolving the matching command.

So when you reveal a command you can do Cham things. To do that you have to discard a dial or token.

Captain Rex does things while you are resolving a Squadron Command. Squadron Commands are resolved "after revealing the ship's command dial" (RR page 3 - Commands) and ships resolve commands "by spending
a command dial or command token with the matching icon at the appropriate time" (RR page 3 - Commands).

So if you want to use Cham and Rex you have to discard a squadron dial or token when you reveal a command. That means that dial or token is gone by the time you get to "after revealing the ship's command dial", so you can't spend it to resolve a squadron command and thus trigger Captain Rex. Discarding the dial or token to trigger Cham isn't resolving a squadron command - it is merely using a squadron dial or token as the cost for triggering Cham.

You may spend a dial/token and then resolve a squadron command with a token/dial though, if you have both.

Thanks. Dial and token is quite an investment but with SH and its super weapon, it might be something to think about.

Typo

Remember as well, that Rex's effect happens when you resolve a squadron command.

So you are resolving a squadron command ,which allows you to command squadrons up to your value.

😉 also a good idea! But against heavy squad fleets, it won‘t be easy. I am thinking of a raddus starhawk with magnites and wondering how to maximize the effect of dropping to speed zero

thanks for your answers!

Hm, help to activate rex and kanan together... but let a certain uncertainty to the rolls and kicks out cham of the build. Still an idea!!

Because Raid will always be subpar in an Armada world where Thrawn rules.

He doesn’t.

Not Anymore.

Not according to the Prime Data.

Not only isn't he the top Imperial commander, but he's underperforming.
