The Polish 2nd edition and the Magic Sword clone

By Cidervampire, in Talisman

Hi,

Having converted all the 2nd and 3rd edition cards and sets for 4th Revised. I’m now keen to try to convert all the cards and sets for the Polish editions of Talisman and The Magic Sword that were not included in the English sets.

I’ve managed to get some scans of some of the sets but I was wondering if someone could help me out. I see that the board has been scanned at Talsimanisland and was thinking that this could be used as a revealed alternative ending.

I understand that there were two expansions, The Cave and Krypta upiorów

I managed to figure out from http://talisman.clift.org/sam/expansions/Polish/index.htm which cards came with the Cave and I tweaked them for the new edition but I’ve been unable to find a translation of Krypta upiorów Does anyone know if one has been made or if anyone is working on one?

Are there any other Polish cards that did not have English equivalents, the Polish expansions don’t seem to be exact clones of the English ones so I’m a bit confused. Were there any other official cards/sets made for either Talisman or Magic Sword that I don’t know about?

Cheers

Geoff

Hi there,

First thing that I need to mention, that Polish cards and spaces, Character cards included, not always were literally translated from English to Polish, so some of them works a little different (for example Gypsy, Master Thief &c). I can provide You a retouch of both Magia i Miecz, and Magiczny Miecz. Be aware, that Polish edition is based on Talisman 1st Edition (so Wand gives +1 Spell, and Command Spell can be cast only on single Character) but with all the expansions to 2nd Edition. The traslantions, which Sam provided more or less are correct but not always, so I would need to compare every of card and check the differences.

If You would be interested in moving Magiczny Miecz to 4th Edition, You would need to do it as whole, not only Krypta Upiorów, because Magiczny Miecz is using only exactly same mechanics as Talisman/Magia i Miecz, however the cards, Characters, and boards are different, similar, but different. Not to mention, that Magiczny Miecz had two editions, and one or two characters were a little different.

I think, You need to contact Jon from TI for translations of the cards, I know he has some.

Magia i Miecz had additional Jaskinia (The Cave) expansion. Also it didn't had Dragon Venom and Market Day, Saracen, Pirate, Warrior of Chaos and Woodsman cards.

As for Magiczny Miecz, it is:

- core game (with additional "Region" + Stone Bridge (equivalent for Inner Region)

- Labirynt Magów (more or less like Dungeon, but we have better possibilities to move, also at end of it we can set up the Alternative Ending card)

- Gród (more or less like City)

- Krypta Upiorów

- Jaskinia (a little fixed)

- Magia (additional cards, I would risk that they were even better than Dragons expansion).

Of course, if You will need the help I eventually can help You.

Hi Nemomon,

Thanks for the info. Maybe not quite as straight forward as I’d hoped. I think I’m a bit clearer of the facts now.

So, Magia i Miecz was a translated 1st/2nd edition Talisman with a few cards tweaked and a few cards missing but did not contain any cards that were not in the English version. Is that right?

Magiczny Miecz was a game based on Talisman but a bit different. Would it be possible if you could clarify the following:

Would it be possible to use Krypta Upiorów with Revised 4th without too much work?

Was Magia entirely new cards and how easily could the be converted for Revised 4th?

Which version of Jaskinia did Sam translate and were there any extra cards in different versions?

Were there any Character or Adventure cards in Magiczny Miecz and its expansions which are not in Talisman or its expansions or are they just renamed versions of Talisman cards to avoid copyright issues?

Would I be able to play a game using the Talisman rules but the main Magiczny Miecz board with the Revised 4th Dungeon and Highland boards? I was thinking about using the board Dyerv Tar translated at www.talismanisland.com/magicalsword.htm

I’d be very happy if you could email anything related that may help. Ideally I’d love translations and artwork for the cards. I’d be happy to do all the work on Strange Eons to make some 4th Revised versions of the cards

Cheers
