FFG and Technology

By lars16, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

They just announced an iphone app (maybe a droid one coming soon?!) for one of their games.

granted its a simple one (might even be skin of another app....) but it gives me hope for the future that maybe they are starting to embrace technology more. I would love an app that was either or both a deck builder or card search. OCTGN is ok, the community made searches are great, but it would nice to have something officially supported so we don't have tzumainn.com 2.0

Oh, please.

Be serious.

Its a CARD game - not a computer game.

Are you being serious?

sorry old man. I forgot you don't like technology that makes life a little quicker and less time consuming. You know how many decks I'd make with a iphone or even relatively quickly (i.e. less then 6 months and no need for program updates) computer program? a lot and I wouldn't have to keep track of all my 3x neutrals like street of steel and milk of the poppy (well thats like 6x, but still).

Yes. Dead serious.

I don't understand how you can say that when you're using a computer right now to make a post on the forums of the card game you play. Should FFG dump it's website and just produce a monthly magazine/catalog because it sells card games and not computer games? I don't see what makes Thrones being a card game have anything to do with using "technology" to make the game more accessible/enjoyable.

Then again, Lars. Stag still uses a phone from the late 90's or early 00's. Heck, he even still uses dial-up!

shhshshcuck bing-bing-bing......

god how i hated that sound!!!!

My AOL service is more than adequate for my needs.

do you still go to websites by typing in the AOL keyword? I can't believe you have the ability to use AIM wihtout any extra downloads or going to AIMexpress.com.....

Someone call the smithsonian we have a living breathing not to mention walking talking dinosaur!!!!

How long have you know me now?

lol, ~apparently too long lengua.gif

I'm not sure how you are going to be able to role play when they make a new CoC past the 90's campaign. haha.

Also, sorry everyone has to be exposed to this playful banter.

Never apologize in these forums. You're a member of the NY meta.

Well, beings outside of NY aren't considered people; therefore, they wouldn't fall into the context of "everyone."

It is not so important but I want to underline my point... without tecnology (OCTG2 in my case) I wouldn't be allowed to play thrones so God Bless tecnology in that cause I love this game and I'm mad about it.

Thx to technology I can daily play with "all over the world people" and moreover test diferent decks to be prepared in "real live tournaments with real cards" :-)

Also serious: I am waiting for more iPhone apps too.

I hear there's a group of neo-Luddites forming in the NYC area...

...and considering I just picked up an android phone, I'd much rather see an app for that than for the ipuke.

Booya for Android phones. What'd you pick up JJ?

htc Hero. And I love it. My wife and I got them at Radio Shack, of all places, and for only $50 (and an extension on our current Sprint account).

Now I just have to get the typing thing down.

Yup, I almost have the same phone. HTC Eris on Verizon. Great phone and the recent 2.1 update only made things that much more slick.

Yeah, I'm really loving it so far.

Do you know if we can get an RSS feed on this thing, as I'd like to link it to FFG's feed. 'Cause I'm a game junkie. And I'm still in learning mode.

Ah, figured out how to do it. Now I'm all FFG set.

To be fair... I'd rather be chatting with you guys in IRC. (That's older than AOL btw... so if stag is a dino then what am i an ameoba?) And when did you stop updating your aol? Cuz i think their last update is basicly a rebranded internet explorer 7 or 8... so you're using something newer than 50% of web users (Internet Explorer 6).

Hell i'd love it if we had a command line version of octgn. If I had 6 months of man hours i could whip it up, but I don't think anyone here would go for it... not when you're all spoiled by drag and drop. (I fall into the vi category in the M-x butterfly strip on xkcd).

(for those that will get it... its a pretty technical joke.)

...sigh. Why did this just make me first lough out loud, and then want to start arguing the merits of emacs over vim... [the xkcd strip is hilarious, if you get it] And yeah I would gladly use a command line version of OCTGN. So... go team amoeba? :)

(as such I'm also shocked by all the yellow emoticons, some programs transform normal emoticons into those and I always get a horrible feeling when I see something like that amidst the grey text...)

Yeah... but I would also need 6 month development time, I work 60 hr weeks usually. So if one took into account that I would have maybe 10 hrs/wk to work on it... that means 1/4 the time available so it becomes 24 months.

Honestly we should try and collect the agot or even the lcg players as a whole and pool our knowledge together.

Yeah, um - wow this thread reads like Latin. I will move on to something that doesn't require an engineering background to understand.
