New to the L5R RPG here. The L5R Beginner Game lists four character ROLES as:

1) Bushi

2) Courtier

3) Shujenga

4) Monk

Are the more roles in the L5 R Core Rulebook? Thank you!

I don't think so, as they're not very important so far.

There's also Artisan.

They're in the core book.

Hiruma scout is bushi/shinobi whilst Kakita duellist is bushi/artisan for example.

So far, the tags have no specific rules associated with them, but some techniques in sourcebooks like shadowlands have them as prerequisites.

Oh, I missed that, but I should've expected it for the expanded crafting stuff (which I'm assuming it's one of the affected examples).

Affected stuff:

• Signature Scrolls
  • Hasegawa's Denial & Maikara's Rebuke (require shujenga)
• Techniques
  • Blessing of Steel (requires artisan)
  • Craft Shikigami (requires shujenga)

Nothing in the Courts of Stone book is restricted in this way, though; I expected some shuji to be 'courtier only'.
