Damned cities *spoilers*

By Replicant253, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

Well part two of the Haarlock trilogy will start for my group on the 29/05 and I wondered if any fellow GMs would like to impart any pearls of wisdom in my direction from their own experience of running it.

My initial reading of the adventure is that the Haarlock connection is flimsy at best; basically the Haarlocks left a demon trapped there and this demon can now sense the impeding return of Erasmus and wants to get the hell out of dodge. It doesn't actually shed any light on events beyond that. My acolytes basically know Erasmus is coming back, the clues to that in the HoDaA and TF are pretty blatant but Damned Cities doesn't appear to bring anything new to the mystery. I should clarify that as a stand alone adventure I think it is going to be damned (pun intended) good, just dissapointed by the Haarlock connection.

Also my acolytes are rank 5 and I will certainly be in including Spectre 17as without their involvement the other adversaries look on the weak side. I plan to use them as a rival group, perhaps stealing a WFRP tracking sheet, and monitor their own investigations in tracking the acolytes down. If they suceed I plan for them to ambush the acolytes in very favourable circumstances playing to their strengths. I will of course give the acolytes plenty of opportunities to uncover that there is another team actively trying to hunt them down. Any thoughts on the use of Spectre 17?

Cheers for now.

Dan

Hi

perhaps you might find this AddedScenes (concerning the "Friends of Bal Grey") helpfull

http://rapidshare.com/files/357446201/Rejoice-RevV02.pdf

They are not "final edit" and ripe with grammatical errors (and perhaps others)... but since you are going to run it soon it might be "better then nothing".

Well, I'm starting DC today, so expect some info soon. But my idea for Cell 17 is to use them as shadows first, then, just before the finale - maybe unexpected help (like Lo'Tan lending his sword to the PC's Templar) and also checking how much the PCs actually know about Komus. After all why would they want to free the demon themselves? And after the whole adventure (assuming the PCs are alive) - they would want to meet on the Cathedral's steps. That of course, would be a trap.

This is Gregorius' "RFYAT" add-on.

Some decent ideas in there. If I ever get around to running the trilogy, I may well use this.

Thanks. If you would like more (or a version that is wrote a little better) have an eye on this subforum next week. "FriendOfaDork" is going to run this soon & I offered to provide my write-ups on this matter. This means my material for [DC] will "end up" here as well.

Plans
- Developing the a possibility for the pc to work -with- the enforcers (instead of just against them)
- Better details on the friends of Bal Grey
- Perhaps an interesting owner of the not-mentioned 13th shard

We held our first day session of damned cities a few weeks back and it was good fun (I'll start another thread on a single issue that I injected) but the Acolytes have yet to find any links to the Haarlock mystery beyond uncovering that the new precinct house was owned by the Haarlocks, beyond one of the Acolytes saying 'well that isn't going to be good'. I have added in a dusty old tome to be found in the old library of the Folly which has blank pages, if a scion of the line drips their blood it will reveal itself to be a diary of Erasmus' time on Sinophia, the entries will be mad scribbles giving only hints about 'horffic reflections' etc.

Of course I know that the link is practically non-existent and on first read through I though Damned Cities was a decent adventure but playing it out was a little dissapointing, especially as fundamentally it is a murder mystery with zombies doing the killing and we have kind of been there and done that a few times.

I am going to think of ways to amp up the Haarlock connection.

@Haarlock Connection
While it is not known, the Clockwork Court is the work of the Haarlock line. Remember as well that the only "connecton" in TF where the widower, his ranting and fear about the return of his master and the two items one could ****** from TF to use in DS.

If you want something similiar,

SPOILER-RAMA

Have the mirror splinter again (I think this was even intended!) and use the splinters as "clue givers" or "patterns" or "Talisman" (or both) in DS: once upon mara, the splinter will show what needs to done to go where Erasmus went, step by step (after all, that is what Erasmus used the Mirror & Daemon for!)

Ooh, dangling a bit of Radicalism in front of the team to help them unravel the big terrible plans of Erasmus! Yummy!
