I don't know anymore.

ROS opening weekend while pretty good, isn't Star Wars good. Only 20 million more than Rogue One for comparison. I really do hope that heads roll at the top and we get new management to steer this IP away from the cliff.

I truly believe that KK thought all she needed to do is stick a competent (arguable that JJ is competent) director in the chair with enough budget and the movies will make themselves. After all, its just space wizards and pew pews, right?

I think the issue is that they needed to make Luke and Leia the wise mentors of a New Jedi Order and a New Republic. But too much of all of that particularly my idea of Leia and Han's children in the Jedi Temple being padawans and getting masters and their first field assignments from Luke was too much "prequel" and they were utterly terrified of that. And then you get JJ who doesn't really know how to make his own movie. So everyone wanted "Star Wars" so we were given "Star Wars" again.

And now the lazy and cowardly and hurried decision has borne bitter fruit.

Agreed. TFA is the laziest movie ever and in my opinion is down in the dark Rancor Pit with TPM and Clones. Is it really much of a saga when they basically reset everything? Too many hand waves in the story to get our protagonists to a point where they were more worse off than when ANH started. I tried to rewatch TFAs a few weeks ago and as soon as I saw SKB, I turned it off. It makes me angry still.

They should have done one of two things for the ST, either put it way out into the future, around a 100 years after ROTJ or something and truly start over. Introduce decedents of Leia or Luke and go from there. New big bad Sith ruler that has garnered power out in the expanse of the outer rim and then comes in and threatens the galaxy. It can still be in the "saga" realm but its so far removed that you do not complete make moot or trivial the events of the OT.

Or they should have made our OT heroes minor characters. Introduce these new characters and only mention or have brief cameos from Hamill, Fisher and Ford. That way you don't have to breakdown everything they accomplished and pretty much make them failures post ROTJ.

No, no, no!! I don't want to relive the tragedy of What Happened To Luke/Han/Leia but with Rey/Finn/Poe.

This is why these movies are getting panned so badly. They are supposed to be part of the "core mythos."

SW needs to break new cinematic ground forevermore. No one is moaning about Filoni's work because {a} it's good, but way more importantly {b} it stands on it's own.

Movies set in the SW galaxy are going to be at their best when the writers/directors/producers can do whatever they want while playing in the SW sandbox.

I don't know, guys.

I don't know if ridding the EU was worth it at this point. Yes, you're hearing me openly doubt this.

We gained so many fantastic, wonderful things that definitely make the EU's many narratives not work... but...

That's what we got. We got an EU story. On screen. We managed to get to the frakking... in many ways, lowest point of the sequel trilogy.

I'm going through the stages of grief right now, if I'm completely honest. I believed so hard in the promise, so much in what we were getting. Now..?

Guys, I don't know anymore. I'm completely lost.

I have a confession.

I use to be a Canon lawyer. Like a BIG Canon lawyer. That changed about 2015. Not all of a sudden mind you, but very gradually, and was only cemented after I saw this current incarnation of the Saga.

I think I have posted what "is Canon and semi Canon, or near Canon or Canon until proven otherwise" at least a dozen times in the past years on several sites and if you go way back to the start on the interwebs I think what is and what is not Canon has officially changed so very many times and been amended to more than North Korean law to praise their glorious leader (of the moment).

If I were to type out what I have to say about Canon it would probably be four times as long as any post above.

I will say this, if you like it, then please consider it part YOUR own Star Wars Universe , your life will be all the richer for it, be it Canon, lesser Canon or Demi Canon, or Robot Chicken's interpretation of events.

Mention your thoughts, mention your source, cite your reasons, share the idea.

Hey there are some people out there who like The Star Wars Christmas Special . George Lucas has called lightsabers laser swords in scripts and interviews. And my eye twitches at the mention of midichlorians.

Shadows of the Empire was a multi platform media event, one of the very first of its kind, which incorporated a novel, video games, toys, and comic books and it was consider hard Canon when it first came out. Even the moderators of Wookieepedia have argued where it should be listed now.

The Star Wars Saga has united (or at times divided) generations of fans from the 70's to 2019, and audiences as varied as movie goers deep in Harlem who vocally and loudly yell at the screen to vast numbers of Tokyo film viewers staring in utter and ghostly silence out of sheer respect, are all still fans one and the same.

So unless you need to site an official source or are writing a peer reviewed doctorate, I think we can all enjoy all the levels of Star Wars .

Happy Holidays and Life Day to Us All.

Well, here's how I'm coping... Kinda.

JJ made the new Treks. To do that, he made an alternate time line.

If I just consider this Disney trilogy an alternate timeline, something that Rebels kinda set the stage for, ...it could work.

Think about it...

In this alternate JJ universe, Luke wasn't all about hope. Hyper Rams had always been a real threat. Force ghosts could affect the material world. Palpatine was never destroyed. So much is now left open.

So I can kinda hack it if I consider that 1-6 never got a sequel. And hey, maybe I look forward (maybe) to 6 new prequel movies? Doubtful. But maybe.

Well at this point I just say if you are going to watch Star Wars just watch 4-6 and that is all. You don't need the rest. Also you can get the original on torrent so no need to deal with all the blue ray changes.

As for Jar Jar Abrams, he is a total hack. I didn't like his Star Trek movies and as for TFA I didn't care much for it. Yeah Disney messed it up, don't know if it is as bad as the Holiday Special but it is getting close. However there is a point of just not needing to watch them. Doesn't mean you can't enjoy other things from the other movies like Republic Commando and 2nd edition. It just means that the stories behind those products are just unnecessary so you can make up your own.

As far as Disney, well if they do anything movie wise their best bet is to star all over from episode 1. Redo the clone wars with no need to follow the past movies. When they reach episode 4, 5, & 6 they just need to copy the past movies (in a way better method than Jar Jar did). That way they get plenty of time to plane the next movies and how to end the 9 part series. However it is going to be at least 5 years before I would consider it feasible. These movies might need more than 2 years to complete. Also KK needs to be replaced or put in a spot where she just handles the merch and not the movies.

Preach. 4-6 is timeless, it's a complete story, it stands the test of time. Adding to it is unnecessary.

That said, Rogue One is fine. Rebels is fine, especially for younger fans wanting to continue the adventure.

Prequels are take it or leave it. Clone Wars makes them better.

Haven't seen Mando yet, but hearing positive things.

Hopeful for the Cassian Andor series. Because hope... well, you know the rest.

But nothing is necessary other than 4-6. Nothing needs to be personal canon other than 4-6.

Stick with what you love.

Robot Chicken's interpretation of events.

These should be considered Canon for EVERYONE.

...

Let me share some of my coping exercises.

There's a lot of fantastic content out for the IP with still great potential. ****, even the visual dictionaries provide so much world building. I'm excited to see what's next, even if TROS wasn't my favorite film of the saga.

I also don't know anymore. I thought I knew the line to toe but FFG seems to take reports very seriously.

Anyone know how many points you get before a ban? 🙃

You could try asking a mod via pm.

Well I've gotten two lol. But I'm different now 😄 . Maybe at some point this year, I can actually talk about how that came to pass. It's actually thanks to an FFG related thing that was pretty cool. It was a very good growing experience for my online activity actually, and gaming hobby.

So I know it's hard sometimes, but, just be cool 😄 remember you can always just use the back button.
