Ah but which edition of the OT? Is this the “Maclunky” edition? The 1997 edition?

I mean, if they did original cut only with the remastered quality.... now that’s tempting.

They'd have to do that if they expect to sell this at 250 American (granted it's estimated). Otherwise 2/3 of the content will just be a rehash of what has already been seen with other box set releases.

it's also all on Disney plus in 4k soooooo

Is it just me, or was the term "Skywalker Saga" not a thing until ROS was announced? I seriously never remember hearing it before.

I think it was an occasional reference since ROTJ

I think it was mentioned just after TLJ, as they discussed Rian's trilogy and other projects moving forward they started indicating this was going to be the last film connected with the Skywalkers.... I think...

It’s certainly a term Disney coined because they wanted to denote new films and projects that had no connection to the primary episodic content of the trilogies thus far.

If Disney wants to call it “the Skywalker saga” then I submit that was just 1-6. 7 barely features them, and 8 only adds a little more.

And I guess that's kinda my main issue with it. Luke shoulda been the main protagonist of this trilogy. They could still add new characters, but he shoulda been the main subject matter again. So calling it that just continually rubs it in.

Yeah, I feel like this is kinda true.

Even if 7 & 8 were world building for a massive Skywalker finale in 9, collectively they do seem relatively short of the usual Muary/Springer level family drama....

You might be forgetting Kylo Ren, he’s a Skywalker too.

I have yet to see episode 9, but I see the sequel trilogy as being his story. Prequels were Anakin, Original was Luke, and now it’s Ben story.

I think this may have been their aim, After seeing TFA and TLJ it felt like this was Ben/Leia's story.

I heard a rumor that Leia was supposed to be "The Last Jedi" in the last movie before Carrie passed.

As excited as I am for Rise of Skywalker, I think the last movie would have been 100x better with Carrie there to bring it to a close.

I feel like Ben’s story has been somewhat cheated then. As the supporting character or villain, it makes sense. As the protagonist/anti-hero, it doesn’t work at all.

Unless Rey is secretly related in all this somehow? Maybe? But honestly if that were going to be true, they sorta missed the reveal opportunity in TLJ.

(I for one wouldn’t mind Rey and Ben being siblings, for it echoes the Jacen and Jaina story that turned to tragedy in legends)

It is made pretty clear from Force Awaken and more importantly from Last Jedi that Rey and Ben are connected. They might not be siblings (and really don't need to be) but they share a bond and are both side of the same coin, they balance each other. Like Snoke says, darkness rises and light to meets it.

Ben is at first presented as the big bad full fledge villain like Vader was, but we soon realise that he has a lot of development to do. Of all the characters in the sequel trilogy, I think he is actually the one with the most defined journey. And that's one of the thing I think is really interesting from the Sequel trilogy, it is not a conventional story, it is a story where the villain is also a protagonist that evolve and not just an anthagonist that is just there to oppose our heroine. We are following the story of Rey but also of Ben Solo and his fall to the darkness. The Last Jedi especially is about Ben Solo going deeper and deeper down the dark path and the conflict within him.

Getting to know how his story end is what gets me excited about episode 9 the most.

Not possible as the negatives do not exist in their original form. Go back and look the stuff they filmed about the making of the Special Editions. The realized that the original negatives were disintegrating so they went to restore them and in so doing added the things they added for the SE. Any release of the OT would be taken from a videotape or an old old old copy of the film. You cannot "remaster" it because, well, it was already remastered in the 90s.

Isn't there a copy of the original theatrical release in the Library of Congress?

No he's a Solo.

Yeah I think so and even if not, you could also use the same digital magic to create something very close to an original release version. There is no such thing as THE original, seeing it in different theaters with different sound systems was a different experience in the 70's anyway. Something is still out there, which was used to create the 2006 original theatrical DVD's.

Taking the family name of the father is just a convention from society. Genetically speaking, he's just as much a Skywalker (from Leia) as he is a Solo (from Han). Or do you really think that he has no gene coming from his mother side?

They are also making sure that the audience doesn't forget it with Kylo calling Vader his Grand-Father and Snoke calling Ben the heir apparent of Lord Vader.

You do you. Here’s a question. How much of Anakin’s DNA was from his mother, and what does the force’s DNA look like?

Sorry, don't know how imaculate conception works (And quite frankly, I always hated that part) from a genetic point of view.

But it's completly irrelevant in the case of Kylo Ren since he has a mother AND a father.

Like Luke and Leia. Geneticly speaking, do you consider Leia a Skywalker?

Genetically no. Names are not genetic. I don’t consider anyone genetically a New Yorker either.

I would think it equally weird if there was a New Yorker Saga, that had 2 movies set in Europe with no characters from NY. But the badguy’s grampa and uncle were from NY, and his mother was born there but adopted out to TX in infancy.

So I gave up being Catholic for Lent decades ago, but this always bothers me... 😛

Immaculate conception refers to Mary being born without original sin. The virgin birth refers to Jesus being born / conceived without a human father. People get that mixed up all the time and even though I’ve been an atheist for longer than I was Catholic, I always feel compelled to correct the issue when I see it for some reason...

Yeah, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, because I don't feel like pointlessly arguing about that.

I guess we just see it from a different meaning.

I myself see it as a family saga, which is a genre of storytelling that follows a family from generations to generations, like for exemple The Saga of the Volsungs. It's not really about having the name itself but being a descendant of the original bearer of the name. Think like a genealogical tree, it's more about the bloodline than the name itself. In the case of the Skywalker Saga, we have Anakin Skywalker, who branch out to Luke and Leia, who then branch out to Ben. A story, or saga, about an important family that left its mark in history. So, even though he doesn't have the name itself, Ben is still carrying Skywalker blood, so in terms of a family Saga, he is a Skywalker.

Sorry about that, I didn't knew it. I'm also an atheist and just had the very basic of catholicism study as a kid.

No need to apologize, almost every Catholic I know messes it up as well 😛
