Beginner Empire list

By Bilok, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Can anyone recommend me a good empire list for a beginner with what I have. Also I would really like some recommendations for the next thing I should buy. Thanks in advance.

I have:

Empire Conversion kit and all ships I have are 1.0

6x TIE Fighters

1x TIE Defender

1x Lambda Class Shuttle

2x TIE Interceptors

There's a classic Howlrunner swarm, with the various TIEs giving each other bonuses and re-rolls as long as you keep them together. Typically quite potent, at least against the right lists.

"Howlrunner" (40)
Swarm Tactics (4)
Shield Upgrade (8)

Ship total: 52 Half Points: 26 Threshold: 2

Iden Versio (40)
Crack Shot (1)
Shield Upgrade (8)

Ship total: 49 Half Points: 25 Threshold: 2

Del Meeko (30)
Crack Shot (1)

Ship total: 31 Half Points: 16 Threshold: 2

Valen Rudor (28)
Crack Shot (1)

Ship total: 29 Half Points: 15 Threshold: 2

Seyn Marana (30)
Marksmanship (1)
Shield Upgrade (8)

Ship total: 39 Half Points: 20 Threshold: 2

Total: 200

You could mix it up a bit, too. Seyn's ability works really well with Rexler's, as he can expose the cards that she deals to enemy ships.

Rexler Brath (81)
Juke (7)
Fire-Control System (2)

Ship total: 90 Half Points: 45 Threshold: 4

Saber Squadron Ace (40)
Predator (2)

Ship total: 42 Half Points: 21 Threshold: 2

Seyn Marana (30)
Marksmanship (1)

Ship total: 31 Half Points: 16 Threshold: 2

Gideon Hask (30)
Predator (2)

Ship total: 32 Half Points: 16 Threshold: 2

Total: 195

As for ships you should get next, try to grab a TIE Advanced X-1. Vader is a ton of fun, and beastly to boot. I might also recommend a couple of ordinance carriers like TIE Bombers or (if you can find 'em and afford 'em) Star Wings.

Good luck!

Beginner Empire lists? That's what I started with!

  1. "Howlrunner" - Swarm Tactics
  2. Iden Versio
  3. Del Meeko - Crack Shot
  4. Seyn Marana - Marksmanship
  5. Gideon Hars - Crack Shot
  6. Academy Pilot

You fly in a formation of six ships, stick "Howlrunner" into the middle and you get a very efficient pew pew machine.

Secondly something more Aceish I guess.

  1. Soontir Fel - Targeting Computer, Crack Shot
  2. Rexler Brath - Juke, Fire-Control System
  3. Lieutenant Sai - Fire-Control System, "ST-321" Title

I really would love to see Darth Vader instead of Sai here, but you don't have a Tie Advanced. So that's the best I could think of.

Maybe you can try the lambda for coordination together with soontir fel in the interceptor and a defender (whichever fits). That should be fun.

About the swarm, I think it would be better to bring all 6 ties instead of so many shield upgrades. It's just that 8 points for that in such a fragile ship... Uh, it hurts a bit haha. Maybe only in Howlrunner? After all she is the most important piece.

For future purchases I would recommend a phantom. The ship is in general quite fun to play and Whisper is a real beast if you load her up with juke, stealth device and 5th brother+optionally some system.

These seem about right to me. Probably as good of an ace list as can be built with the available ships, or a standard 6-ship Howl/Inferno TIE swarm.

Soontir and mini-swarm can work. It's not a popular archetype, but should be at least OK and can probably be built a bunch of ways. Here's a version which doesn't require any upgrade cards from the Core Set or other expansions... Iden and some other ships are only there, Targeting Computer only in an expansion. Of course, it's good to proxy upgrades, but not everyone likes doing it.

  • Soontir (Predator) 55
  • Howlrunner (Swarm Tactics) 44
  • Mauler Mithel (Crack Shot) 33
  • Scourge Skutu (Crack Shot) 33
  • Wampa (-) 30
    • Total 195, bid 5.

I would do Ace + Mini swarm of Ties. A full swarm of 6 ships can be a bit unwieldy if you are not familiar with flying. A 4 ship block is a good starting point to learn formations.

Try something like pricerunner, shopzilla, etc? Amazon?

Seeing plenty of european Phantoms on ebay btw. Oh and it'll help you to know that the TIE Advanced v1 is known as "Inquisitor's TIE"(also search "Inquisitor TIE"), while the TIE Advanced x1 is known as "TIE Advanced Fighter x1" I'm seeing both 1.0 and 2.0 ones on ebay, in europe.

The 6 TIEs would without a doubt be a strong list, albeit a strain to fly with such a block. And the TIE x1 is definitely the next good purchase I can see.

I think a fun alternative to the 6 TIEs would be Rexler with Juke, Soontir with Predator, and Sai with ST-321. A couple of powerhouse aces supplemented with a truly phenomenal support ship

I'm in Serbia so Amazon is not an option. I can maybe get something on Amazon to Slovenia though because I have some friends there. I wil check out pricerunner and shopzilla too!

If you've got a bunch of TIEs, a Lambda and a conversion kit, don't underestimate Admiral Sloane. It turns your Lambda into a beefier Howlrunner-esque force multiplier with a much more tolerant range restriction.

  • Omicron Group Pilot
    • Admiral Sloane
    • Minister Tua
    • Hull Upgrade
  • Academy Pilot x 6

Everyone's Initiative 1, so you know you'll be moving first most of the time and won't have to 'guess' where clear space will be to move into, and you can chop and change movement order to avoid collisions.

The shuttle is tough as old boots, especially with a Reinforce token - it has an extra hull point, and once it starts taking damage cards it can Reinforce 'for free' as well as doing its normal action.

As long as the shuttle stays alive, your TIE fighters (and the shuttle itself) get attack rerolls against any stressed ship - anyone using linked red actions, autothrusters, using red koiogran turns or segnors' loops - and anyone who kills one of the TIE fighters, too. More importantly the range of this effect is 0-3, covering a huge chunk of the board rather than the "flying an unwieldy 2x3 brick" of Howlrunner's range 1 aura.

Sticking Vader on a Lambda is no bad move (though it'd have to be a basic Omicron with no upgrades); aces love being able to strip tokens off their opponents - and it's especially nasty paired with a ship with Juke. The Targeting Computer is not in the conversion kit, I would note, so I'd stick with Predator or Daredevil for Soontir.

For flying a swarm, this guy explains it quite well:
