Lambda and/oe Punisher with who...?

By player4233697, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Got a Lambda and a Punisher, but dont know what lists to build with it, any suggestions?

Have interceptor, phantoms, x1, v1, agg, bombers, defender, striker, defender and alpha-class

Thanks! :)

Colonel Jendon, redline, and Soontir is a pretty sweet list.

What kind of mods should lambda and punisher use? Quess crew (palp) and rockets? 😅

  • Redline is solid. Proton Torpedoes and maybe Passive Sensors is a great all-purpose build.
    • Protons could probably be switched for Diamond Boron Missiles to save points. DBM and Advanced Proton Torpedoes also looks like it'd be fun, and a point cheaper than Proton. Maybe there's other exotic missile/torpedo loads (I'm fascinated by the idea of Ion Torepdoes and Cluster Missiles), but Proton Torpedoes are almost surely just the best.
    • Passive Sensors aren't mandatory, but they're nice. Redline take the Calculate from PS and use his ability to grab a lock. Maybe you're even able to grab a Lock from the "spend the charge" action.
    • Advanced Sensors are a potent but incredibly expensive option. Take a boost or roll before you activate, grab a lock from your ability, and go somewhere really unexpected. However, this also requires a sizeable bid (going first with this Redline is kinda game-over), and probably won't be easy to work into a list. I'd recommend just Passive Sensors and Ordnance.
    • Overall, a Redline can probably be dropped into most lists. Grab two decently built aces (or one ace and a shuttle) and go to town.
  • The two best Shuttles are Jendon (probably the best overall) and Sai.
    • Jendon enables whole lists. Take a few ships which want Locks, and go at it. A bunch of TIE/v1 (often generic Inquisitors with FCS and Concussion Missiles), Redline Punisher, maybe even TIE/x1 (Maarek Stele with a lock taken early can just focus every turn and be a fairly solid ship for his cost).
      • The "Hatchetman" list was popular for a while.
        • Jendon (Maybe with Palp)
        • Vader (any standard build like Passive Sensors and Afterburners)
        • Alpha Class gunboat Major Vynder (typically OS-1, FCS, Proton Torpedoes, Advanced Proton Torpedoes, Advanced SLAM)
        • There may be some wiggle points. Vynder can hit like a truck, and Vader does Vader things.
    • Sai (particularly with ST-321) is kind of a tanky heavy-hitter who also has support features. Coordinate a Focus, then pick up Focus/Lock yourself. Just rather efficient. Jendon kinds of needs a specific list with Locks, while Sai could slot in with kind of any two aces you can afford and be at least OK.

To pull from recent Worlds lists:

  • Duncan Howard, for fans of subtle and patient ace play
    • Soontir Fel + Hull Upgrade + Targeting Computer + Crack Shot
    • "Redline" + Proton Torpedoes
      • Note that Redline doesn't really need Passive Sensors here, since Jendon lets you grab locks early, and you probably won't have a bad approach where you're stuck without a Lock on anyone.
    • Colonel Jendon + Jamming Beam + Director Krennic
      • Krennic's Optimized Prototype goes on Soontir, and it'll allow Soontir to be really cautious on the approach. Spend a Focus to strip a shield, while hiding behind a rock at range 3 or such, and saving a focus token for his own defense.
  • Dee Yun, with a more In-Your-Face version, for when you just want to smash face, and not worry about keeping Soontir alive
    • Darth Vader + Passive Sensors + Afterburners + Hate
    • "Redline" + Proton Torpedoes + Passive Sensors + Electronic Baffle
      • (baffle can be cut if you don't know when you'd use it)
    • Lieutenant Sai + Jamming Beam + ST-321

Other fun lists:

  • Omicron Group Pilot (Emperor Palpatine), Darth Vader (any standard build like Passive Sensors and Afterburners), and a Delta Defender. I've run a bunch of OGP/Delta/Delta (a list I love, but that probably doesn't have much large-tournament potential), but swapping a defender out for Vader should be at least OK. If a Defender gets to the one-on-one endgame, it's kind of indestructible.
  • Jendon, generic Inquisitor (FCS, Concussion Missiles), Maarek Stele (FCS, Crack shot or Marksmanship), Soontir Fel (Crack Shot, Targeting Computer). Basically, Maarek Stele replaces what would normally be a 2nd generic Inquisitor, since that's what you own. Generic Inquisitors are really strong for what they are: cheap ships with more defenses and offenses than they probably should have. Easy missiles from Jendon's Locks, Force + Focus or Force + Evade on the approach to be nicely tokened up.

Don't own enough Passive Sensors? Proxy them. Print off copies from the home printer, point at the pictures on an app, whatever. Folks will fly casual with it.

Imperials

(67) Darth Vader [TIE Advanced x1]
(6) Afterburners
(3) Passive Sensors
Points: 76

(52) "Redline" [TIE/ca Punisher]
(4) Shield Upgrade
(3) Passive Sensors
(13) Proton Torpedoes
Points: 72

(47) Lieutenant Sai [Lambda-class T-4a Shuttle]
(0) Jamming Beam
(4) ST-321
Points: 51

Total points: 199

Something similar to this went top 32 at worlds. It’s my favorite punisher list currently. IMHO Sai is far superior than Jendon. Unless you’re powering out generic V1 or X1s.

Redline aside, Deathrain has tons of tricks and easily double-mods, and significantly cheaper. For the price of Redline with Proton Torps(and nothing else) you can have Deathrain with DBM, Tragedy Simulator, and Proton Bombs.

Lieutenant Sai (47) Jamming Beam (0) ST-321 (4)
Ship total: 51 Half Points: 26 Threshold: 5

"Deathrain" (44) Trajectory Simulator (10) Diamond-Boron Missiles (6) Proton Bombs (5)
Ship total: 65 Half Points: 33 Threshold: 5

Darth Vader (67) Hate (3) Passive Sensors (3) Afterburners (6)
Ship total: 79 Half Points: 40 Threshold: 3

Total: 195

It's still really hard to get a punisher to be worth its points, but hey, swarms will hate you.

  • Lieutenant Sai: ST-321, FCS, Jamming Beam, total - 53
  • Soontir Fel: Targeting Computer, Elusive, total - 59
  • Darth Vader: Afterburners, FCS, total - 75

When Sai coordinates Soontir or Vader into Focus, she gets one herself and receives a Lock from title. Then Vader can link it into more actions and Soontir can do his ship ability. Afterwards the two Aces activate and do their normal actions. From a Coordinate, you get two Focuses, a potential Lock and whatever Vader or Soontir decided to follow it up with, if anything.

You also have 13 points to play with, or stick with a bid.
