Text only rules reference guide

By Froomja, in Star Wars: Legion

Does anyone have a line on the current rules reference guide as text only? I would love to have a physical copy but the current PDF would straight up murder my printer. I do have several local printshops to have it printed, but would rather use the resources I already have at hand.

Also FFG overlords, would you consider publishing a version of the RRG that is printer friendly, much like the fundamental tournament document?

one of the greatest mysteries of our age

It's due yet another update soonish to account for even more keywords being added in previews.

I'd be happy if they provided a version that didn't have that background image. It would be so simple to do, and would save a lot of players money which would be better spent on more Legion stuff :) I printed out the last PDF and it used up an entire set of cartridges, costing me over £20, so that was one less expansion I bought!

While it is possible to extract the text from the PDF, it is quite a mess. There are many inline images (like hits/crits/surge sumbols). I tried it and this is a snippet of the sort of text you would retrieve:

I doubt they themselves have a text version of the manual and are more likely to use a program like adobe's indesign

It is also possible to open the pdf in a application like affinity publisher and remove all the images: like I have done: https://swlegion.space/ffg.pdf

100% agree. text-only would be impractical, but a printer-friendly version without the background image would be perfect.

Thanks, that's useful but I like having the diagrams and such. Its that background image that sucks the ink dry!

Well we can do that too , but I won't keep this one up forever as it is quite big. So if you are looking at this topic from the future.. hi! Good chance this resource is not working anymore. But since I live by the famous words of Terry Pratchett:

"Give a man a fire he will be warm for the day, set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life"

What you do is get access to an app that can edit PDF's. Like I said, I use https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/publisher/ but others can probably do it too. Make sure you have most of the fonts installed (Minion Pro, Aero Matics and Outlier Rail, as far as I can discover all free) and open the pdf. Now you can edit it like a series of images, which all the different elements on their own layer. So removing the background is a easy as selecting it and press delete. Than export the whole thing and there you go. Some of the fonts are probably custom, like the fonts to display the ranks and hits/crits/etc but most of it comes out ok.

(I uploaded a new version of the txt as well, with the right fonts.. well for the most parts)
