Question About Minion Groups Dice Pools

By El_Tonio, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I've read about using Minion Groups in the Beginner Game, the Core Rulebook, and various places online. I'm sorry to say I'm still having a bit of trouble understanding their dice pools.

I've put together a few examples... Can someone tell me if these are correct? If not, what would I need to do to correct them?

Thanks!

p.s., I also posted this on RPGGeek, but there does not seem to be much activity there and I could not get a definitive response. 337547875_MinionExamples.gif.4a87337d0bd3d57bece2369bac23f895.gif

Yup! Unless I missed an odd mistake, you've got it right.

For ease of reading, though, I would suggest putting the Proficiency over to the left. That might just be me though.

Basically, the number of Minions in the group is the number of ranks they possess in the skill minus 1.

Then treat it like any other skills check; the higher of the two numbers sets the number of dice, and the smaller number is the number of Upgrades.

You did make a small error.

When you reach all yellow the next minion adds a die then the next minion upgrades that die and so on. So minion e would be 3 yellow at 5 minions and 3 yellow 1 green at 6

Ya sure about that? Adding members adds skill ranks, not just flat upgrades. So a 5 member (rank 4) characteristic 2 group would roll 2g2y.

Skill ranks are upgrades.

Unless the ranks are the higher number when comparing Characteristic vs. Skill ranks, then the ranks generate the ability number and the Characteristic is the upgrades.

EotE core pg 19.

So, is Minion E correct, or is there an error?

At level 5 I came up with 4 skill (5-1) (higher number) and 2 characteristic (lower number) = 4 dice total, two of which are yellow.

I'm happy to revise this if this is incorrect. Let me know.

Minion E is correct.

With 5 minions, you have 4 skill. With a Characteristic of 2, that is 2 Proficiency and 2 Ability.

Thought-before-bed, here, but there's a reason why I houseruled that minion skill rank is simply number of minions in group, period. Sparing the arithmetic makes life easier.
