Reminder: FFG New Ship Preview livestream Today, Tues the 17th

By Hiemfire, in X-Wing

I am not sure if I like the direction they are taking with First Order.

Now Holo can give an evade(!) to Kylo.

We already have FO ships which punish you for fulfilling the game's prime directive, damaging your opponent.

Lt. Tavson. Damaging him can trigger some serious shenanigans. And he has the hull.

Quickdraw. Stripping her shields lets her counter attack. So you better do the last 4 damage in one sweep.

Now we get even

-Rush (Silencer). Damaging this being makes it an Ini 6 Silencer with its insane dial (also opens a rule's pandora box of what happens with simultaneous fire at ini 2?)

-Phasma (SF). Damaging her lets her spread damage, with opens up the possibility to trigger Fanatical on her company, or trigger Quickdraw.

There will be some squads where, whoever you damage, it will backfire on you (unlike e.g. Sloane where you can go right at the Sloane carrier). This is quite an NPE, as long as the game's only objective is "damage your opponent".

The other side of this is that the opposing player has a a clear target priority when playing against First Order.

One of the reasons Tavson has fallen out of favor is top players ignore him till the end. Which is why people are switching to avenger swarms.

We have no idea how much rush, holo, or phasma costs. Neither phasma or holo can turn their ability off. A phasma omega swarm will have a round where she has to break off or risk cycling unavoidable crits through on the FO's and holo may have to pass a stress to kylo instead of an evade.

Word choice

FO can already feel a bit weird that way, with Kylo, Tavson, QD punishing your damage any which way.

But another way of looking at it, trading damage is the entire game. Other factions will punish your decisions with their top pilot abilities, without having to enter a trade.

I quite enjoy the FO mechanics.... so far.

Wait till they're actually unbalanced. That'll be a different story.

It seems that is what the factions identity is leaning towards: "If you hurt me, things get worse for you." Fanatical, QD, Tavson, Avenger, Rush, Tavson,

Their theme has more or less been "My suffering makes me stronger" from the 2.0 release till now. Masochistic space fascists = First Order.

Which I'm super ok with. As long as they don't cross the NPE/OP gap, and I don't think they're close.

Say what you will about the tenets of the First Order, at least it's an ethos.

It definitely beats the drunk rat with an IED strapped to it that S&V got shackled with...

N-1 break point changes is my bet.

As they're only two attack die and two defense die I'd be fine with the Bravo dropping to 33 to allow six.
