I don't think that's the case.

It's worded when and overlaps, not while overlapping.

Then what's the point of calling out that a squadron overlapping an asteroid field has no effect for the 2nd player?

What other effect would an asteroid field have on a squadron?

Nothing, at least not at the moment.

Dunno. Future proofing? Bad wording? @Drasnighta @Karneck

If 2nd player's unique squadrons were not included in that sentence, then his unique squadrons would not recover defense tokens.

It helped me not lose my SSD by being super liberal with my defensive tokens. I was up against a Motti list with a Targeting Scrambler Interdoctor, a Cymoon and a Vic 1. A lot of firepower coming in and a lot of hull to get through.

Ravager lived with the Interdictor in its rear only because I got two braces back.

Maybe there's a chance of making asteroids more impactful by not allowing squadrons to overlap them (at the cost of 1 damage)

Played it in our RitR campaign as 1st player out of curiosity. Got slaughtered. Don't pick it with a squadron dependent list. Ever.

Funny that this objective does emphasize 2nd player not taking unique squads, while not stopping the 1st player, though...

No similar qualifier for the 1st player, so...2nd player unique squad on an asteroid field? No obstruction for you??

From RR:

"OBSTRUCTED An attack is obstructed if line of sight is traced through an obstacle token or another ship that is not the defender. If an attack is obstructed by one or more ships or obstacles, the attacker must choose and remove one die from his attack pool before he rolls dice during the “Roll Attack Dice” step. • Squadrons do not obstruct attacks. • If line of sight is drawn over an obstacle, the attack is obstructed even if the bases of the attacker and defender are touching. Related Topics: Attack, Line of Sight, Obstacles"

no mention of overlap, when discussing obstruction. So unique squads should still be obstructed. I think the text in the objective is more of a general writing that ships and unique squads are not affected when they overlap i.e. the point in time when they move onto an obstacle.
