What if General Tagge had to ability to recover defense tokens for up to 3 unique fighter aces in round 3 or 4 in addition to for his ability on ships? He would need a points increase obviously. I was thinking 32 points would suffice. Maybe go as high as 35 because of scatter aces. His ability for aces could also have a distance 1-5 requirement and not require points adjustment. What do y'all think?

In all seriousness though, that's not a bad idea to make him more interesting. Given how wary many of us are towards fighter heavy lists and a general antipathy towards the scatter token, I don't think it'll see much support from the community. That said, as he's an imperial commander there may not be as much push back.
It'd also be nice to see him cut into Sloan's territory.
Points wise, you're definitely correct, he'd need a substantial increase.
I'm not sure about the three squads limit. It's unlikely to ever come up as most of the time you never have more than 3 squads to recover tokens on anyway. And when you do, recovery of a token on a fourth is likely to be meaningless anyway (eg. Recovery of a brace on a double brace ace with only one or two hits left anyway). So I'd suggest either removing the restriction or lowering the number.
I like the distance restriction, but I'd still raise his points.

I mean, we've got Salvo about to enter the game. Whatever other defense tokens you have, you're always going to spend salvo in an attack if you have it, because why not? That'll burn out quickly, as well as your other defense tokens given salvo eats up one of them to add.
I'm happier with a cheaper Tagge that only fits list types assuming his use (IE., heavy use of defense tokens, the point you burn them out several times a game) - it's a more interesting game when the commanders aren't all obvious in how to get the best use of them.

Even when the idea of Tagge getting better thanks to Salvo appeals me, I don't think he will be a thing.

Edited by JadinEDI think that he would work better as a reverse Palpatine. You put out one of each defence token and once per turn, you can choose a defence token and one ship can recover that kind of token.
