New (missing?) rules

By Y Mab Darogan, in Genesys

So inspired by a comment in another thread, what if any new/missing rules do you feel are needed for the Genesys system?

for example I’d like a robust set of psionic rules that isn’t as hand wavey as magic (which I love as a rulesets) but not aping the Force rules from SW.

Mass Combat rules. We did an episode called Rally The Troops on Finding the Narrative for it and went over the rules from Star Wars RPG.

Vehicle Chase rules that are very hard to codify in any system to be done right. And by done right I mean ... fun. 😃

To expand a bit, maybe some Starship specific combat rules and Age of Sail specific combat rules like boarding another ship in space or on the sea. I know the community has made some fantastic supplements for these kinds of things that I truly appreciate.

Guidelines for Skill Challenge with the party needing X Number of Successes before Y Number of Failures. Tony has created a nice system for this that he pulled and tweaked from Star Wars I believe.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

I'm working on something similar and would be curious to see it. Do you have a link?

Mass combat would be great.

Superpowers.

Abstracted wealth.

I second the call for a formal Skill Challenge procedure.

Something covering how to run Chases.

A small sidebar containing an update to RoT Table 2-18 Magic Skills and Actions, showing where the three new magic actions fit in with Runes and Verse, would be nice too. 😊

I'm not disagreeing, but that sounds more like an errata item than a new rule in the sense this topic speaks of.

I guess I wasn't considering it an errata as much as a rule that was missing (which is what the topic asked for).

@Korlall is currently working on a Skill Guide supplement for Foundry that includes what I consider to be the most elegant skill challenge mechanics I've seen yet. I am biased a bit, him being a friend and all, but I like to think my opinion of his mechanics are just plain good . Hêll, they're better than anything I've come up with so far.

We ran a poll on the Discord server and the consensus was this:

Of course, this is just community votes and nothing official. But I doubt we'll get anything official since the EPG doesn't touch on anything in RoT or SotB, so there is likely to be no official support.

Wonderful! Looking forward to the Skill Guide.

I would love to see a method (yes I've seen Self-Made Systems) for purchasing Spells as Super-Powers. I've just been winging it with 20XP for a Spell type (say attack), and 5 for a specific application (Attack spell with Long range and Lightning Effect). I also have a "weakness" cost reducer for the powers.

As I'm doing this just for my game, if the player comes up with a power set, I flub it, and let them in the spirit of the game.

For Example: Cyclops has the Attack magic group, but it is powers are not lazers, so it cannot use "Burn"

Anyone looking for Skill Challenge rules probably already knows, but the 4e D&D DM's guide 2 has a great chapter on them. Not everything is 1 to 1 for Genesys, but it's a great overview with some very interesting, and complex, examples.

The Skills Guide includes a lots of suggestions for ways to use skills, each one coming with suggestions for difficulties, modifiers, symbol usages, and example for each skill usage suggestion.
It includes rules for Skill Channlenges, Story Rolls, Knowledge Boons, Dehydration/Starvation, Sleep Deprivation, and more!
The document is just above 100 pages.

It's currently within the last stretch of writing process. I expect the document to be released late December/early January.
