Yay now we have a chance for vader to drop in using his 3 pip and land on a token giving him Field Scanner meaning we can activate deflect like 4 times in one turn with the correct build.

5. This fits into my theory that the cards we haven't fully seen, use the carts, bombs, and supply crates, interchangeably, instead of 1 for bombs, 1 for carts, and 1 for crates. They could mix and match.

payload... as in bomb on a cart. oof. This is going to get really interesting if you are right.

it is 100% a bomb cart haha the portion of that card that you can read has "bomb cart" on it, in the bottom paragraph that begins "at the end of each round" lol

If you select Rebel Veterans as your choosen Corps unit, the Mk II emplacement comes along for the ride, right? Could provide cover fire as the Vets fall back. Recon Intel would help get a move on as well.

I would say no and no, as the card says that you "place" the unit, not deploy it, so no Recon Intel (not sure about the MkII, that would be a bit OP, though)

Not really OP, since the Mk II would be free to get shot to pieces on turn 1

Right, forgot that the hostage escort is immortal turn one.

Actually, I think Snowtroopers might make a good escort, since they move Speed 1 anyway and can still double move and shoot.

Are Nute and Riyo hostages and nothing more? If so, does that eliminate them from being commanders later?

Technically, that’s not Nute. Looks like Rune Haako, the droid control ship leader AKA “that stunted slime” in Sidious’s words.

I wouldn’t say it eliminates it, but they are less likely for quite some time. And honestly, there’s plenty of better choices for quite some time for commanders and operatives

Super interesting fact that I got wrong for years and just found out, but Rune Haako is not called a "stunted slime" its Daultay Dofine. As punishment I am now required to go watch 3 YouTube videos on how Disney destroyed my childhood.

Daultay Dofine also dies in 1 while Rune Haako shows up in II and gets killed in III. Both are also killed by Ani.

Yeah that headdress means it's Rune.

I think it's a decent effort to put in notable faces as minis (which you could play around with, sub them in as a generic commander or officer later for instance or something) who probably don't deserve special rules and command cards and what not. Definitely CW themed, though obviously you could still use it with GCW factions. Also shout out to FFG for immediately putting the barricade condition in, that was one of the things in Skirmish I was like "can we port this to standard?".

To be fair, it’s been a LONG time since I’ve seen Ep1. Will that be punishment enough? :)

So the hostage isn't a mini that is attached to a unit and that means that it does not count for determining LOS and Cover. Also worth noting that Vader can reliably hit MoE to panic the objective unit on the first round. On Hostage Exchange

Trying to decipher this card:

Targeting Range...(r?)

While performing (an) attack, during the (roll attack) Dice step, you gain (X) (While attacking, y.... aim tokens to im... die res(ults?))

Actually not. Units with hostages have Immune: Enemy Effects in round 1. Also the unit gets +1 courage. Well designed and I hope it plays as fun as it reads!

I'm assuming "Targeting Rangefinder" and it involves a keyword with aim tokens. Do we have any already that make sense, or is it new?

Spotter, Tactical X, Target X.

ummm, that's all I can think of

Oooh. This may burn, is ffg slowly rolling ia into legion as a game mode without the squares?

That's both cool and sucks at the same time....

Enemy Effects... Hmmm. we do not have a rule set on that Immunity yet, so I would say that you could use MoE to give 3 suppression to each enemy unit at range.

These do not affect the Roll attack die step, so it is a new keyword.

I mean, ffg did say IA was “complete” from a physical product stand point.

I never played IA. I really like the idea they are gong for with this expansion though. More objectives in Legion is excellent so more than just the same game every time, after vetos are done.

If you shop around you can pick it up for cheap. The core game remains probably the best play value in SW (for a single purchase), short of the twin pack RPG/Sourcebook, but comparing those is really apples and oranges.

The large boxed expansions (Hoth, Jabba) are also excellent values.

The grid system was the reason I disliked IA. The maps all felt tiny and claustrophobic.

My opinion for what little it is worth:

I'm excited for this. New battle cards will be nice. Going to be fun to mix and match everything to see what I like/don't like. Hoping we'll get Eliminations as the last objective.

I'm not sure why they decided to lead with the paints though. I would have thought that they'd lead with whatever would be the coolest, follow it up with the paints, and then drop the mid level thing. That way, expectations are met early on, and the mid level item seems better by following something underwhelming. Oh well, FFG makes a lot of bizarre decisions.

It's especially weird to me because they did the paint live stream the day after announcing the paints. Why not announce the battle card pack on Monday, then announce the paints during the stream, like they did with the skirmish rules last month? I definitely think people would have been less down on the paints overall if they hadn't been the first announcement.

Haha yeah, I was just thinking of keywords that provide Aim tokens, whoops lol

It's true that we don't have the exact ruling yet, but it seems rather obvious to me that the idea is to prevent any shannanigans. Unless specifically stated otherwise I would consider any interaction with the unit caused by the opposing army an enemy effect. So no Force Push, Force Choke, Fear, etc. I would even say give in to your anger or Double the Fall don't work.

Oh, good! I sometimes have trouble keeping the straight which Neimoidian is which.

I’m glad this figure isn’t Nute, because I figure Nute is the CIS’s best (not only, but best) shot at an 80-90 point commander. Plus I want a command card titles “Shoot Her... Or Something!”.
