Vital Assets Article

Sadly, once the paints were announced, it should have been pretty clear that the CW factions weren't really getting anything from this week's announcements, besides the new battle cards. Cassian and Iden had been leaked for so long, it was only a matter of time. It is incredibly frustrating how poorly FFG has handled the CW releases, with the only support they've given (Rex and Dooku) being the result of a mix up/accident. Even after the delays, not having the units available months after release that the GCW had on day was is annoying as ****.

Looking forward, the issue is not that they've simply not abandoned the GCW factions, it's that they're receiving over half the unreleased expansions.

GCW - 4 (3 sets of expansions, 1 terrain piece)

Luke and Vader Operatives

Trooper Upgrade Expansions

Endor Bunker Terrain

Iden and Cassian Commander/Operatives

CW - 3 Expansions

Phase IIs and B2s

Saber and AAT

Trooper Upgrade Expansions

Not factoring in the Escape Pod as it includes cards for both, and thus is a wash. Even if we want to give FFG a break and add Dooku/Rex, the list is at best even. This is a far cry from the 80% Clone Wars stat that was promised/implied. LFL pushing/demanding OT characters be used isn't much of an excuse for me either. It just goes to show how little the parent company respects the game and/or the CW factions. Honestly, this is bad enough that I'm considering walking away from the game for a while, at least until they take the time to catch up. I can only play the same list so many times before the game starts getting stale. The recent push of the skirmish format isn't helping; if you're taking Obi, you really can't have a good list at 500 points right now, leaving Rex as the only option.

@Alpha17 I completely agree. And I've seen some people list the individual boxes of the units in the Core box as part of the CW support from FFG, and I contend that those boxes do not significantly increase the options of the new armies.

Even WITH the LFL pushing the OT characters, that's been presented as solely the reason for Luke/Vader so that doesn't explain the "release slots" being taken up by terrain.

The only extra the GCW factions are getting is the bunker, which is a piece of terrain with a mini-campaign. Putting it as a GCW release is stretching it, as it's not something that the GCW armies can use.

It is something they can use for narrative play, while the CW factions can not, and thus counts. Even without it, the releases are balanced, and nowhere near the 80% CW that is needed to allow the CW factions to catch up.

The big thing that stands out to me is the promise to catch CW up, and then not. Sure, they get the same release count right now.... but CW doesn’t need the same. It’s way behind the unit curve.

I hope those mines can be disarmed by a couple lightsaber attacks. 🤪 😆

So it’s not an inside joke for others, click here to see them in action in the Clone Wars animated program.

It's brutal right now to only max out at 8 activations for the Republic
