Kuats are a nice option that can be independently good. But if you want to enhance damage output, then you might want to consider taking Demolisher instead. From experience, it can be annoying how much 2 ISDs can get into each other's way, especially the close ranged ISD1s and Kuats. It can get so much much worse with SSDs. If the ISD ends up on the farside of the SSD during an engagement then you have 127 points out of the fight. If it is in between the SSD and the enemy fleet, then it gets focused down and the base is too fat for the SSD to really support it.

Something more nimble like the Demolisher with engine techs can do similar amounts of damage, avoid large base traffic jams, and hide from the primary arcs of opposing ships.

Also, while having independently good ships has some advantages, have you considered taking an Interdoctor? It has some nice synergies for protecting the SSD against being pinata'd?. Double targeting scramblers can be a pretty potent against ships that try to maneuver close to pin the SSD or get into an auxillary arc (very common for those to turn into a knife fight) . It is also resilient enough to serve a line backer to ram anything that tries to do a flanking attack run on the SSD like the Kuat can.

Overload pulse is the 'fun' option but surprisingly effective in nuking tokens with the extra Ravager dice. SW7 and HIE are the normal choices of course.
