A interesting setup

By Blockdroid, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi,
I have alot of boardgames and usually introduce them to people new to boardgames and they are interested in the old X-Wing setup i have in a showcase.
I'm very sure everyone will like X-Wing due its intuitive movement step, i really like the game. I also proudly showcase my x-wings at my home to not forget my background ^^

Showcase:

It would be great to have a balanced setup for each player, also if you have any experience with "special setup" matches to make it interesting that would be awesome!
I'm got X-Wing long ago but newer got to start playing much but just got ahold of a few more ships listed below:

SCUM & VILLAINY
1 YT-2400
2 HWK-290
EMPIRE
VT-49 Decimator
6 TIE-Fighters
2 TIE-Phantom
1 TIE-Advanced
1 TIE-Bomber
REBELS
2 Millenium Falcon
3 X-Wing
1 B-Wing
1 E-Wing
1 Y-Wing

However, key is to make it easy to get started and learn the game, without making it so that Empire always wins or vice versa with a interesting concept of the match setup. Or is this even possible?
I believe its also interesting for others to hear ideas for different match setups, if this is already available elsewhere please direct me there ^^

Any comments of just a set of ships would be super nice hear!
If anyone could it would be very appreciated to comment a example below like below with the ships i have above:

"Title : Dogfight
Points :
Type of game description:
Balanced-Why:
Comment:
Team 1 Ships with cards:
Team 2 Ships with cards:
Etc"

Example:

"Title : Dogfight
Points : 38/38
Type of game description: Fight to death, Easy and short setup.
Balanced-Why: The ships are the same.
Comment: Most interesting with alot of astroids on the map.
Team 1 Ships with cards:
TIE-Phantom : Advanced Cloaking Device, Stygium Particle Accelerator, Tactician

Team 2 Ships with cards:
TIE-Phantom : Advanced Cloaking Device, Stygium Particle Accelerator, Tactician"

Also i have a 3D printer so i can definitely create special objectives or other structure on the maps.
BTW can you play a interesting game with more than 2 players?
Look forward to hear of any help and ideas i could get from your experiences!

Kind regards

Hi, we are a Vienna, Austria based gaming group. We frequently present Xwing at events like the comiccon etc.

We offer the game basically in two different difficulty levels.

First with 100 points squads with iconic ships but limited equipment and shenanigans and reduced rules

- only 3 obstacles

- starting at range 2 to force early engagements

- no damage deck (crits are double hits)

If they players are used to tabletop or interested in the full fun these squads are expanded to full 200 points squads and official rules.

Besides Obi for the republic all other factions start with the generics only first.

Rebel squad:

**Red Squadron Veteran (43)**
* Adv. Proton Torpedoes (6)*
* Servomotor S-Foils (0)*

We had a lot of fun and eventually attracted new players for our hobby.

Thank you for your response!

I'll definitely use the links, very neat to to get the full squad in a link like that!

The first Rebel and Empire squads i can begin with, since i have those ships.

Do you think that the rebels stand a chance with so much fewer ships?

I'll definitely use the below you mentioned straight off!

"- only 3 obstacles

- starting at range 2 to force early engagements

- no damage deck (crits are double hits) "

You point out " with iconic ships but limited equipment " and i do believe i need to setup ships friends can recognise from movies to gain traction, but that i have to have pre-created set of ships of what i have so we quickly can get started.

Any key points which ships to use or avoid from my list of ships in particular to maintain a balanced matchup?

Hi, great that you find some use for you!

All lists are balanced against each other with the focus to work on the small scale (generic) as well as full (including elite pilots).

I strongly recommend to introduce it as follows to add some fluff:

"A nimble rebel wing (both Xwings) is en route to check imperial transport routes sneaking through a nearby asteroid field which got caught by an imperial patrol (4x TIEs)..."

After your players are ok with the rules you can throw in Han and Vader to make the meal spicier...
