Tool for GMing

By baterax, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Hi everyone!

So I've discovered a bar here in the UK that has one of those cool tables with a TV embedded in it in the center.
The table has an HDMI input also, and I'm over here thinking "Hmm. This would be PERFECT for my game, if I had some sort of app on my iPad that I could use to display maps and have a fog of war thing going, that would allow me to reveal bits of the places as players explore, etc"

Is there such a thing?

Perhaps Dungeonfog would serve your purposes?

I don't use it myself, but I believe it might fit the bill.

Oooo yes this looks like it's what I'm looking for.
You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

Thank you.

You're welcome! Glad I could help.

Roll20 does this and works on iPad. At least my nephews view it on their iPad and the fog of war works fine, I use a Surface Pro to run the game so I don't know how difficult it would be to control from an iPad but as it's mainly clicking (tapping) and dragging it should work fine.

I've used 3D virtual tabletop with my Ipad if you only want a play surface and digital minis.

I've also used EpicTable which allows mirroring with your computer (I have a GM view on my computer, players see something different on the TV). Don't believe it'll work with an Ipad though. So, a laptop or desktop nearby?

Yeah I've hit a snag. Dungeonfog doesn't like iPads it seems. I get an error saying the browser is not fully supported yet.
It suggests Firefox or Chrome, so I installed Firefox on the iPad and no dice.
I'm guessing it's something to do with it not being the desktop version of the browsers.

Looking into Roll20 right meow.

Mm. That's too bad... I thought it was compatible. Sorry.

Hey, you tried. We're all learning so as this thread progresses we'll find something.

Update on Roll20: Also a nope.
I downloaded the app and as soon as I launch something, it jumps into the browser with an empty blank screen and the app itself crashes.
Bad start...

I've found this thing called EpicGM, looks way better, seeing if it works.

Ok so it's AWESOME but it's kinda D&D-specific from what I gather.

It does allow importing XML from dropbox so it looks like it COULD be used for other systems though.

Hmmm.
