The Rise of Skywalker No Hate Thread (FFG STAY OUT)

By Imperial Advisor Arem Heshvaun, in X-Wing Off-Topic

I get the criticisms of TROS , is that what we are calling it?

Just saw it last night. I will say I enjoyed watching it which is what I want from a movie. I want to see it again. I really don't have a desire to see TLJ again.

They did do what I feared they would, and tried to resolve too much for a single movie (many scenes, especially early on, felt very, "Here's some action! Now here's some exposition! Now here's some more action and some more exposition!" and didn't really flow well). That said, it was still quite enjoyable, and was a quite satisfying end to the Skywalker saga, in my opinion.

I just wish they had done Wedge's cameo a little better.

@JJ48 I agree with all that you cited above and in particular Wedge’s cameo.

I was like “where is he, where is he” then when he finally make it to the screen “come on guys ...”

Such a missed opportunity.

I’ve seen Rise of Skywalker four times. I was surprised I teared up a few times the first screening.

I teared up every other time during Han’s sceen. Didn’t excpect it each time.

TLJ, I like rewatching Luke Force Projection scene, and maybe some deleted scenes, but after the viewings I’ve had (mostly for Wookipeedia articles) that’s about it for now.

I just wanted to see him in an X-Wing cockpit, at least. Especially with Lando, it would have even been a perfect opportunity for a, "Just like old times," remark.

I didn't know Wedge would be there, so when I saw him, I clapped one hand over my mouth and proceeded to cry tears of joy. It was such a special moment. I mean, sure, they could have done it better, but with how much Dennis Lawson resisted being in the sequels, I'm not sure how much he was really willing to put into this cameo.

I would like to give huge kudos for bringing back B-Wings and Y-Wings. That made me happy!

I thought I saw him say that he had been interested in being in the sequels, but was busy with another project initially.

Either way, would it really have been that much more difficult to have him seated in a fighter cockpit delivering a half-second line rather than seated in a gunner turret delivering a half-second line? If I hadn't known he was in the movie and been explicitly watching for him, I don't think I'd even have noticed it. As it was, I had to look it up online after the movie to confirm that that was Wedge's cameo, and not some other bit I had somehow missed.

Hm. I wasn't looking for it, but it didn't slip by me. I thought it was good. Maybe he was too old to be a fighter pilot?

Re: Lawson turning down the role, I never followed up after I heard he rejected it. Apparently that was an incorrect report. Glad you mentioned something so I now know the truth.

If I remember the Aftermath books right, he gets some pretty serious leg injuries. I'm not sure he would have been able to act as a pilot rather than gunner.
