Vader (commander): force push and saber throw

Storm troopers x2

IRG x2 with heavy weapon and environmental gear

I'm thinking that on the close field this will do a lot of work. IRG can protect vader until things get close then kill whatever gets in charge range. IRG and Vader stop all the lightsaber wielding hobos out there. Stormies because I have to.

Vader is indeed better on the smaller map. I would recommend only 1 IRG, though, and instead playing another Corps unit.

This is likely a more efficient way to go.

But I like(and fear) the idea of two units of IRG and Vader charging across the board!

Sure I could run another corps unit instead and add dlts on to at least 2 units but what then? I feel like the board is small enough that getting to melee won't be a problem and with how many lightsaber people are out there in today's meta the anti-pierce will be very valuable.

For the cost of one of those IRG, you could add a unit of Snowtroopers with a Flamethrower and Enviro Gear, and add a DLT to one of your Stormtroopers, for 95 points. Or you could add a unit of Shoretroopers + a Mortar for extra activations, and have room for more upgrades.

I'm not saying it's a better way to go, just that I would prefer to have more range providing covering fire to 1-2 melee units, than 3 melee units with only 2 basic corps troopers as backup.

I played a league match recently at 600 pts against Vader, Dewback, plus other stuff. It was pretty gross on a 3x3. The Dewback can get across the board with New Ways to Motivate Them almost immediately.
