Shadowrun conversion

By Chaithi, in Your Settings

Hey all! I know there's been a few of these out there, but I took a swing at doing it myself, garnering inspiration from the great Paul M N Haakonsen.

I've done several balance passes already and believe I've got enough to launch. I'll be running my first session with it this Saturday.

The main design philosophy on this was to stick as close to Genesys/Shadow of the Beanstalk core rules as possible. We wanted to transplant the setting, not the rules/mechanics. The only mechanic we brought over was Essence. We felt that -1 Strain for each Cyberware from Shadow of the Beanstalk was too restrictive for what Shadowrun is known for.

The document assumes knowledge of the Shadowrun world, not describing lore, gear, etc. It gives a baseline for GMs that want more 'gun porn' to modify the "Heavy Pistol" to an "Ares Predator".

Please look it over and let me know your thoughts!

I finally downloaded your version of Paul's Shadowrun and have one problem with your Assensing as the Physical Adepts in Shadowrun were able to Assense if they purchased the quality which allowed them to Assense as well. table of content has Nuyen on Page 3 when it should be page 8 under resources.

Just in case you are interested I took the Merits and flaws and converted them to XP cost where player pays the xp for Positive Qualities and gets back xp for negative qualities. we were helping out Paul and adding stuff where we were working on the Physical Adept so here is my qualities https://drive.google.com/open?id=1LflKAuqQ8sF8TVFM4GbmsLeciodFZGa6

Printed out your pdf so I can look at away from the laptop. Going to look into it some more.

Looked even more into your version and getting ready to commit to it as my Tuesday game, had question about your favors and contacts though, I have played different versions of shadowrun and they had ratings, if they don’t have ratings what is the well connected do for the characters?

Hello Gilbur, happy to hear you'll be playing!

Yes, I opted to drop the Loyalty and Connection rating. It's up to the GM and Player to determine which types of contacts make sense for each character. Obviously if your slumming street sam says they're friends with a dragon and the President of UCAS, then the GM should probably nix that. The connection and loyalty system have been replaced with the favors system as described in Shadow of the Beanstalk.

So then your list of contacts would have the certain level of favors then?

Oh if my game on Tuesday goes well, I will probably run your shadowrun version on my Friday game group as there is more knowledgeable Shadowrunners on my Friday group, just to give you a heads up on my plans for your rules set.

Not at character creation. But the contacts would be ones that the players can reach out to to start up the favor economy.

got it, maybe a combination of the favor economy and the loyalty/ connections from Paul's stuff would work, which by the way I talk with every couple of days

  1. next thing I need to ask is "are you planning on converting over the critters from Howling shadows? I am a big 3rd/4th edition shadowrun player, never really ran but did like the core of 4th edition until I fell for the 4th edition but thrown off on the 5th edition and spent quite a bit on Edge/Genesys by the time 5th edition came around.
