We did it! 2 Investigators Vs. the visiting COTDP!

By DoomTurtle, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

"Ashcan" Pete and Amanda Sharpe took on Nyarlathotep with a visiting exhibit expansion. The only weapon between us to start with was a Derringer. And Duke had to get sacrificed to stop 'The Stars Are Right' after it added a doom token. But things just seemed to go our way. We got no double doom token mythos, when the Arkham river washed up two exhibit items, one was a Parchment (the only Elder item we used all game). We got lucky and both missed a dual color gate card by one card when we were in the appropriate realms. And we both learned the value of sneak, we only killed 2 monsters between us, a maniac, and an elder thing.

It was our 8th try, and we sealed for the win. Our only other success during those 8 tries was a final battle win vs. Shudde M'ell. But we wanted to prove we could seal. We'll definitely be adding a couple more investigators to take on Dunwich! gran_risa.gif

Sorry for the unexciting and vague status report, but it's late. Gotta work tomorrow.

Were you using the herald?

You can do Dunwich with three (unless you're playing visiting exhibition). Although it sounds like you're playing with a partner (in which case four would be better for team balance).

Well done, Doom Turtle ::smiling::
Anyway, adding one investigator each would probably make you enjoy the game a bit more. I don't say you can relax, but at least you have some more opportunities to explore locations and elaborate different strategies, without rushing against time (well, at least in my opinion this way is more enjoyable).

We didn't use the herald, I still need to get some ink for the printer. We'll come back to the Dark Pharaoh again in the future, but we need a break from it for little bit. We just did the 2-investigator challenge because we beat the base game on the first try (though it was against Azathoth, so had plenty of time to seal), and figured CotDP shouldn't be too much harder since it wasn't a board expansion. After the first few tries, it became a kind of a masochistic challenge to try to seal.

Now that it's over, we'll be playing Dunwich for a while, and we'll probably play 2 investigators each when we play by ourselves. We have the luxury of having quite a few friends that like to play this game (I think 7 other people or so, with a few more ready to give it a shot), so if anything, we'll play Dunwich with some of them, and maybe I'll have to pick up the next small box (King in Yellow) as our next 2-investigator challenge.

Uh... KiY would be a challenge if you're going for a sealing victory with only two investigators and using visiting exhibit (I haven't reviewed the exact number of mythos cards it has, but I suspect it would be nearly impossible because of an abundance of Act cards).
