What I think a Doctor Strange hero would look like

By maniakmedic, in Marvel Champions: The Card Game

I've been thinking about what a Doctor Strange hero would look like since he and Captain America are my favorite Avengers. I don't have any specific card text thoughts, more of general "this is how I see Doctor Strange operating based off of what I know about him" thoughts.

- Aspect: Protection. It just seems like it would be the best fit, though I could also see him as doing well with a customized aggression build.

- Abilities/mechanics: Heavily leaning on deck manipulation, both player and encounter decks. I would imagine the Eye of Agamotto would have something to do with it. Maybe like with hero Gandalf from the LOTR LCG, he will play with the top card of his deck face up. Maybe be able to move cards from the encounter discard back into the deck to avoid decking out and causing a permanent Scheme acceleration. Boost cancellation. The ability to recall played cards to hand or even to trade a card from hand into play with another card that has the same cost once per turn (that might make Nick Fury a broken card in the process; it would be freaking awesome, though).

- The Cloak of Levitation is almost certainly going to give him the Aerial trait, but I also tend to think it will provide another function as well. Possibly damage mitigation, almost like a dodge ability.

- Ally: Wong. Has to be.

- Alter-ego: Hard to say since once his hands are damaged and he becomes the Sorcerer Supreme he doesn't really have an alter-ego. Maybe he'll just be Stephen Strange, though what his alter-ego ability would be I haven't really thought about.

Anyway, those are just my thoughts on what Doctor Strange could look like. If any of you have thoughts, I'd love to hear them. Especially if you have a lot of background knowledge of Doctor Strange.

I realize I don't know a lot about superhero characters and everything I know about the Avengers is filtered through the MCU (comics-wise I was an X-Men fan as a kid, and even that I've mostly forgotten), so I'd love any suggestions as to what trade collections I should read to get to know both Cap and Doctor Strange better. For Doctor Strange I watched a "History of Doctor Strange" video on YouTube, which had some suggestions, so I'll definitely be looking for The Oath and Sorcerer Supreme collections, as well as the Doctor Strange run that started in 2015. But if there's anything else that would be good reading, I'm all ears.

Depends how they design his mechanic. But gis alter ego side ability would feel right to me as a deck manipulation ability. Maybe rearrange top 3 cards of player deck. An encounter deck cancellation ability on alter ego side would also fit.

His hero side would center around thwart i would imagine.

Stats: T:2 At: 1 D:1.

Hid offense and defense ability would cone from player cards. Insert some sort of spell mechanic in his player deck that maybe other heroes in the future can piggy back on

Yeah something like Spidey-Senses but for Scheming would be a pretty neat ability for Strange’s Alter Ego side.

Infinite loop mechanic ? :x

Oh no!

"Dormammu, I've come to bargain!"

I want to see a card with bats (the ghost dog) ;)

I think they should add a mechanism about been in astral form rather than have a card attached to him.

The sanctum santorum or his library should give him huge bonus.

I think him being in Astral Form should be his Alter-ego side. He couldn't be physically attacked, he isn't physically exerting himself so exhausting to recover makes sense, and maybe some card draw or encounter deck manipulation in this form to show that he's still active in stopping the villain while in Astral form.

Wong and the Sanctum as his unique supports. The Eye of Agamotto and his Cloak of Levitation as unique upgrade attachments. Book of Vishanti (Restricted) as well.

Brother Voodoo as ally.

Alter-ego action card that calls on his medical expertise and maybe a Hero action card that calls up him being a skilled martial artist. Of course he's gotta call on the "Crimson Bands of Cyttorak!"

Baron Mordo as nemesis.

Depending on how late Doctor Strange shows up, he might get some less generic stats. Alter-Ego side Astral Form? Give his Astral Form both Recover and Thwart, and his Physical Form Attack and Defend.
