As far as landing gear, no they don't appear to have any. The clone wars suggests it's not the only course of action, although one would have to consider how long life support would last without it.

Probably the optimal scenario is to launch, stay in space for an hour then get tractored beamed by a friendly ship. Sadly sometimes u get pulled into a planet's orbit and hey a crash shouldn't be the problem as much as the heat in re-entry

If they can be used by the Republic, do they come with extra tan bases?
