Krennic?

By Prosk_019, in X-Wing

I've got a homebrew in the works for the Delta-class T-3c Shuttle and I'm looking to make a couple cards work with Krennic. I don't hear anything about him, but a quick glance at metawing shows he ain't totally useless. Is he fine as he is? If not, what could he use?

I'm also curious as to your reasons for not using him, cause I feel like it's possible that the core effect just ain't worth using most of the time from a mathematical perspective.

His main use is with the Jendon + Inquisitors build, where he's granting the Lambda the lock action to maximize the value from Jendon's ability but also giving one of the fighters the ability to strip shields without spending dice mods, which is particularly useful when the meta is filled with ships that are tricky to hit and have a lot of shields (regen Jedi, TIE Defenders, A-Wings, Inquisitors etc) when you are flying fragile ships that want to preserve their modifications for defense (or use their actions for repositioning). I don't think you see much use out of him elsewhere since his ability isn't worth the full 4 points, so unless you have a build that uses both the lock and his ability you aren't going to bother bringing him.

Krennic works good when paired with a ship that usually does not want to spend its focus on offense, like Soontir. He is also good when paired with a two dice gun that probably only doing 1 damage anyways, like a Seventh Sister/Inquisitor.

Main probably with Krennic is he requires a shuttle type ship to lock and maintain a lock on a single ship. Shuttles like Lambdas are lower initiative so you probably are not getting the lock on first engagement unless you specifically run Jendon.

Then comes lists like 4 fangs, Sear Swarms, Howlrunner Swarm, that dont really have shields and Krennic is mostly useless.

I think if you dont have a way to deal with Tokened up ships like Evade+force Inquisitors, or Defenders, etc then Krennic is a decent addition. He just isnt a necessity in most squads and probably is in many builds and ends up getting 'the chop' cause 4pts buys you things like targeting computer on Soontir or Whisper or a couple FCS for your inquisitors, etc

crennik needs a lambda with title in general.

usually is better if the "optimized prototipe" is a ship with same or lower initiative than the lambda.

this because you will move the "optimized prototipe" in the direction of its target then move the lambda after it, coordinate it and acquire a lock on the target of the "optimized prototipe".

having an optimized prototipe with higher initiative than the lambda really make more difficoult change target at the last time or lock the ship you want at first engagement.

this is why jendon/krennic (i3) works with inquisitors (i3).

to me this is the more easy way to trigger krennic.

Having to take the lock action to be of any use is a major restriction on a support ship. Which is why shuttle plus shenanigans.

It's a good restriction though, the condition is decent and capable of some janky things with damage cards. Being of maximum use when tied to a slightly more expensive Cow is fine.

I've been running this-

Optimized Prototype:

(84) Colonel Vessery

(55) Lieutenant Sai w/ Director Krennic and ST-321 Title

(35) Inquisitor

(26) Night Beast

Still getting the kinks worked out but having the shuttle coordinate Vessery for a Boost/Barrel (ala Adv. Sensors) before a 4k Turn OR Focus for both ships AND the shuttle gains a Target Lock with Range 3 of Vessery, which of course Vessery loves...

Inquisitor gets Optimized Prototype to strip Shields or flip Crits on whatever the shuttle coordinate/locked with its 2 Dice Attack.

Night Beast is my Flanker/Blocker

Shuttle may get burned early but at least they're leaving your Defender alone...of course, the Initiative of the pilots makes this look good on paper and is harder on the table...

Krennic tends to choke on his ambitions.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

So it seems like he's in an alright spot as he is, and would only really want an effect which helps to keep locks available.

Sadly even though it's his signature shuttle, I'm probably gonna give him 1 directly synergistic card cause there ain't a whole lot you can do with the guy.

If you want to leverage his ability, give the T-3c a light version of Jendon's ability as a ship ability, or really the E-wing's ability would work perfectly. Then it can take the lock, but once in battle it almost never would want to/be able to. Then when you build pilots build abilities around having a lock, but not spending it. Put Colzet Zertik as a pilot, one that makes it easier to aquire locks (spend a focus to aquire a lock during the end phase), and one that has built in FCS or can aquire multiple locks. These sorts of abilities would make it a great platform for krennic or tarkin, maybe one that let you spend a lock on a friendly to coordinate as a proto-type Biohexacrypt codes, and to make a cinna-ree platform.

I still kinda regret never flying a FCS/Krennic TIE Phantom back when TIE Phantoms could take crew.

This is real helpful, thanks! I gave it a sensor slot so fcs is set, and it's got a dial which will help keep its arc on target. An experimental scanners-like effect could be perfect, good call.

This is probably one of the more interesting and IMO "best" Krennic list I've come across recently.
