Thor reveal coming December 5!

By Hippie Moosen, in Marvel Champions: The Card Game

If it is ghost rider, I hope its Danny ketch! He's the only one I ever liked. Unfortunately that pic is of the Reyes ghost rider so it'll probably be him.

It would getting a bit annoying seeing very obscure characters make it into the game while better known characters get ignored to make some kind of quota. I understand the need to toss in less popular heroes from time to time but I just don't want them digging in the bottom of the barrel to fill a certain spot while other characters get ignored for years.

Ghost Rider and Guardians of the Galaxy does seem like the best bet for what is next. I really want X-Men characters but I'm doubtful we will see any for a year or two.

War Machine and Black Widow are at the top of my list for characters that have a decent chance of getting released before the X-Men.

While acknowledging that I have zero first hand knowledge, it seems that there is a lot at play in deciding popular vs obscure for heroes. LOTR (which has a smaller cast to pick from, much less diversity and no current need for cross-promotion) really spread out it's big stars; interspersing them with lesser know characters.

I think that business model/marketing/product type needs all could play a heavy role. If you put out all the heavy hitters up front, there is less incentive for people to stick with the game. It was very deep into LOTR before there was a Gandalf hero. Any product that is intended to have a long lifespan, probably benefits from not going all out on their most famous characters too quickly. Likewise, greater Marvel plans could influence it as well (though this product still seems too niche to me for Disney to see it as a truly useful marketing tool...I could be wrong though).

I also think that designer inspiration counts for a lot. Wrecking Crew as a second scenario pack really points to this idea. Who Caleb and Boggs have a good idea for or think fills a useful spot in the game, I'm sure has quite a bit of impact.

All that said, I really do hope they'll continue to keep a diverse character selection. If they can manage it in LOTR and AH (which have much less diverse and modern source material), then it should be do-able with Marvel.

PS if you are really jonesing for X-Men and are ok playing homebrew someone has made up hero packs for several of them. Check out the BGG forums for the Daredevil hero review thread and follow the links (there is a folder of X-Men next to Daredevil). I haven't played them yet, but will probably at least try out Gambit.

Prefer Johnny Blaze myself.

Not a fan of Reyes. Reyes doesn't have the right look or personality. He doesn't even have a bike.
