Canadian X-Wing Players Thread

By feltipern1, in X-Wing

I thought I'd start a thread for Canadian X-Wing players to check in. I'm way out on the East Coast, but I'd like to know the state of the game across the country; i.e. how active are the players, what's the meta look like, etc. I wanted to do it for curiosity's sake, more than anything.

Playing near Montreal here. I can say that the Frog Open that happened with 47 players last week-end was won with a Sear swarm over a Maul/Griveous/Chertek duel. Cannot be there, but there's a lot of videos from Millenium Condor Baladodiffusion and fron FROG Squadron.

I see a lot of diversity in the games that I have played. I donT' play enough to see a consistency in the play.

Community is great in all the Montreal-Quebec area. I'd say 50-75 regular players.

Playing in NB here. I play competitively much less nowadays but I will travel from time to time. I tend to stay away from the Meta lists, preferring to build more varied or thematic squads... and that's probably why I play less competitively! hehe Events are mostly an opportunity to play several consecutive games, hopefully with different players than our local crew too. Speaking of our locals, we are about 8-10 players with 2-6 showing up usually on Monday nights at our store.

Not a bad idea @feltipern1 . GTA player, but I travel occasionally and have played out in Nfld and might be looking for games in Calgary next year.

Our particular store ranges from 3-6 players on game nights, and really isn’t playing the same meta as the global competitive scene. Experimental 200 point lists, huge ships, scenarios... we do it all.

I miss the wookies on X-wing

Sounds about the same as here, @LagJanson .

Montreal area on my end. Active Facebook community working in tandem with multiple others like Trois-Rivière, Quebec city (home of the Frog Squadron) and others. Locally, groups have specific stores where they play every week. The Abyss (that's the name of the store that I go to) is well frequented on tuesdays and closes super late, so it can actually host 3 round tournaments during week days (which usually draw over 20 people). Standard evenings average around 10 or more X-Wing players. Some local big events include "Le Défi Alpha Condor", which thanks to active members of different communities can grab up to 50 players. There is also the "Millénium Condor Baladodiffusion" podcast which covers a lot of stuff (and the big event mentionned previously)

Meta varies wildly and you'll rarely see the same list twice during a tournament so overall, it's pretty healthy. People try to specialize (and have fun) in their own thing. So yeah, lots of fun :)
