Klaw II: What if The "Immortal" Klaw is not found?

By wurms, in Marvel Champions: The Card Game

So this just happened.

I went from Klaw I to Klaw II. I searched my encounter and discard for the "immortal" klaw and it was nowhere to be found.

Turns out, just before defeating Klaw I, i cycled my deck with tony stark ability and drew an encounter card. Guess which one it is?

So, its neither in encounter nor discard pile, so it just doesnt happen until the encounter phase? Until then Klaw II is just 10HPs less for now?

Yes, if you can’t find the target of a search, it just whiffs and does nothing.

If it is in play and you switch to Klaw 2 he gets the bonus health right?

Yes. The health bonus applies to Klaw while it’s in play. Each version of Klaw has an extra 10 hp while it’s in play.

Albeit so briefly that it’s unlikely to matter. If you can manage to finish Klaw II that same round, before the encounter card flips to give +10, then it probably wouldn’t have made a difference.

If you can't find it, it obviously can't enter play, but like others said it's unlikely to matter if it ends up as an encounter at the end of the next villain phase. I guess the better place to have it upon switching to Klaw II is in play with 1 threat on it (although you'd have to do 10 additional damage to Klaw I if that is the case).

Wait a minute...I was under the impression that the moment a player cycles through their deck, that player immediately draws an encounter card, which to me implied it also gets resolved immediately. Is the player supposed to hold on to the encounter card as an additional encounter during the encounter phase only?

If so, I've been playing wrong for months 😆

The moment you cycle your deck, the encounter card is drawn, but is not revealed and resolved until the step four of the villain phase. It will sit in your play area (or wherever you'll remember to play it) until that time.

Yeah, that's a particular use of wording that threw us off as well. Drawing an encounter card does not equal resolving it.

The wording is actually ‘Deal’ not ‘Draw’. You deal yourself an Encounter card face down and then wait until step 4 of the Villain phase to resolve all of you dealt encounter cards. Step 4 is the only time you reveal encounter cards, and you continue to go round the table at step 4 until there are no more face down encounter cards, even if you get one after you’d resolved all your others.

Just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly here, but the way you said that you "continue to go round the table at step 4 until there are no more face down encounter cards" makes it sound like when you play you alternate taking turns to reveal 1 at a time.

You resolve all your encounter cards before the next player goes. So you only go around once, from the first player until the last player. If you get any more encounter cards while you are resolving them, you will then also have to resolve the new ones you just got if it is still your turn.

Yes, you resolve all of your cards at once, in turn order. If I’m first and I have 2 cards to resolve I resolve my first card and then my second card. If one of your cards causes me to need to reshuffle my hero deck, I would be dealt a new card immediately and once you were finished resolving your cards, the next player in turn order would resolve all their cards, etc until it got back round to me and I would then resolve my 3rd card, etc. You don’t leave step 4 until everyone has resolved all of their encounter cards.
