custom quick build league

By Wiredin, in X-Wing

looking at doing a game breaking custom quick build league inspired on the Defender Vader that was posted before. The question is... how game breaking can we get?!

some examples, all just swap in the pilot ability, can build out using regular rules, trying not to cross faction stuff unless it's "canon":

Miranda Doni in a T65

Darth Vader in a TIE Defender

Fenn Rau in a Star Viper

Assaj in a Fang Fighte

Rebel Sabine in a YT2400

Rey in a T-70

Wedge in a T-70

Countess Ryad in a Decimator.

Pure Sabbac in a Phantom

Quickdraw in a Upsilon

Tavson in a Silencer

Braylen Stram in a VCX

Poe w/Finn crew in a TIE/SF

Wedge A-Wing is very good for an A-Wing (that is to say, it'd be great filler for under 40 points, but probably couldn't really be a 1-threat Quickbuild).

Luke or Ezra in an E-Wing is also going to be a solid ship. Or Sabine (link into Lock, pull a Blue, take a Focus).

Gavin Darklighter in a B-Wing for Autoblasters would be wicked scary for aces. Any out-of-arc attack from him would put an unpreventable crit onto someone.

Pure Sabacc in a TIE Defender would be pretty strong: Four shields and Full Throttle mean it'll be a long time until you have 2 damage cards.

Redline in a Starwing would be solid. SLAM -> Lock -> Advanced SLAM Focus -> Lock #2.

Ved Folso would be a dream to fly in a TIE Interceptor, other than that whole Init 4 thing.

Dengar Fang would be fun: add Fearless for some scary Range 1 nose-to-nose action. Not broken per se, but fun.

Dace Bonearm in a Scyk (to easily equip Ion Cannon) would be a nasty little filler ship.

Viktor Hel in a Starviper or Fang Fighter or anything that doesn't have 2 printed agility. That'd just be plain *MEAN*

Snap Wexley YT-1300 would be great. Free White Boosts?

Null in a TIE Silencer would probably be great. Init 7 Silencer.

1. Take the three most powerful Scum pilot abilities you can find.

2. Put them into Aggressors.

3. Equip IG-2000.

Congratulations, you now have three ships all running around with all three pilot abilities. Enjoy!

Assaj in a Fang Fighte

With what turret arc?

Mine:

Quinn Jast Starviper with Stealth Device and Collision Detector.

Fenn, Guri and Dengar. 5 die range 1 primary attacks with a Tl+focus with a revenge shot for good measure. 4 die on defense for everyone too. Maybe 2 focus each....

Fun (not broken) with Scum:

4-LOM in a Quadjumper. (with pattern analyzer) Threat level: 2

Unkar Plutt in YV-666. Threat level: 2

Outer Rim Pioneer in mining guild TIE. (with trick shot). Threat level: 2

Latts Razzi in a Kimogila. (with R3 astromech). Threat level: 2

Krassis Trelix in M3-A. (with ion cannon). Threat level: 2

Han Solo in G1-A. (He'd be better in Starviper). (trick shot and advanced sensors, and mist hunter if G1-A). Threat level: 3/4 (depending on ship)

Talonbane Cobra in Customized YT-1300. (With title). Threat level: 3

Dalan Oberos(starviper) in YV-666 (with electronic baffle, 0-0-0, BT-1). Threat level: 3

Btw, these are all while obeying normal building rules, which isn't necessary in quick build...

Adding threat level

Kavil in Customized YT-1300 (with title). Finally a 3 dice gun without trick shot shenanigans. Threat level: 3

IG-88C in Fang Fighter, with Juke. (Tough cookie with concordia and free evade when boosting, nasty offense with Juke). Threat level: 3

Captain Jostero in Firespray with proximity mines. (self-trigger). Threat level: 3

Torani Kulda in Starviper with advanced sensors. (line up that bullseye). Threat level: 3

Sarco Plank in Kimogila. (Very tanky as long as you fly fast). Threat level: 3

was thinking about it last night, and what might be more fun and allow more creativity for our league would be "pilot upgrade" cards. Trying to math it right now... but currently Vader looks like he would be a 40 point upgrade. How did I get that?

Vader over a generic X1 is 67 points. which is a 76% point increase. if we take a Defender and an interceptor and calculate the generic pilot with a 76% increase and then average the 3 we get 40ish points.

Take 5 pilots from each faction, figure out the average point increase for 4/5 different frames to calculate upgrade cost and allow our league participants to add them as a pilot to any generic frame. Wondering if we need to insert an initiative skill check to the equation somewhere. (ie: if the increase cost is x more than the base chassis then reduce pilot initiative by 2 points) Force users would take their base force stat with them.

Right now looking at these pilots:

Rebel: Luke, Wedge, Miranda, Sabine, Jake

Imperial:Vader, Pure Sabbacc, Gideon, Redline, Vermile

Scum: 4-Lom, Fenn, Boba, Dengar, Torkil

Resistance: Poe, Rey, Finn, Nein, Cova

FO: Tavson, QD, Kylo, Null, Longshot

Republic: Matchstick, R2-D2, Padme, Obiwan, Kickback (Republic I'm not sold on right now)

CIS: Maul, dooku, Grevious, DBS-404.... CIS has pretty limited options actually.

I'd just change it to front attack arc in that case.

Vader is 29 points over the generic. Translate that to a Defender and he'd be 98 points. It's probably fair. Sure he's a super-tanky points fortress, but it doesn't leave much for his wingmates, and your list firepower will suffer.

There are probably times when just comparing to generics leads to some very skewed numbers if put in different ships though, and how do you appraise ships without generics(aggressor assault fighter comes to mind)?

Fenn Rau is 24 points above generic... 88 in a firespray? Sounds like a bargain, until you realize that Dengar is only 12 points above a generic. 56 points for Dengar in a Fang Fighter? Truly undercosted. Talonbane is also 12 above generic, as is Ketsu Onyo. Han Solo (scum pilot) is only 8 points above generic, now there's a bargain, slap him in a Starviper for 54 points, 68 with trick shot and advanced sensors? I'd fly that any day.

incredibly valid points

I totally wrote the wrong number for vader lol
