No one can give you helpful advice without playing the format. Different cards, different restrictions, smaller field. So many new variables.
Since we play at home only we've been doing our own version of skirmish anyway all along. 5-600 points on 3x3. Reduced deployment zones. It's been very enjoyable and we dont feel like we're missing out. If we can figure out space we'll move up to 3x6 and 800 points.
For advice Id say the fifth trooper blog is very useful for getting an idea of what units are good or bad at various things.
After playing several games, from my experience most of the units that have been considered unusable and terrible are now the best units to use. Fleet troopers are now incredible. Wookie Warriors are very usable. Snipers are complete garbage but that makes a space for saboteurs which are incredibly useful. Commander Vader is probably the best unit for skirmishes. He's actually able to get into melee really easily especially with Darkness Descends. Then Master of Evil can wreak havoc on your opponents entire army. I played one game where i used Master of Evil combined with the War Weary condition to panic my opponents entire force except their commander on round 2 of the game. Then his 8 health is really hard to chew through with only 500 points and only 5 rounds to do anything. The only thing that's maybe as good as Vader is the AT-ST. Didn't think i'd ever say that the AT-ST would be good, but its absolutely amazing. With so few units going against it its extremely hard to take down. It's height lets it see basically all the units on the board and it can kill any of them easily. So unless you're using fleet troopers, go empire.
i see... hard decisions
My only concern for the skirmish is that it will become even more Herohammer like. All the Jedi characters become even more potent in this format.
The quicker game is fun and I did play Wookiees which did very well for themselves. R2D2 s ability seems overpowered in this format actually.
Edited by buckero0We played Elimination last night. Deployment zone was the range 2 semicircle set up. And whatever condition prohibited attacks beyond range 2 for the first round.
I ran Veers (commanding presence)
Snowtroopers x 1 (Frag grenades, flamethrower and recon intel)
Stormtrooper+ DLT x 2
Speeder Bikes x 2
Scout strike team (sniper)
Brother ran Leia, Chewie, fleets (scatter gun), rebels Z6 x 2, ATRT with rail gun. Didnt get a look at his upgrades but it looked like he paid for loads but didnt use them much. Leia's command cards, chewies pip 2 and the rest were standard I think.
I was completely wiped out before end of round 5. Fleets got the height on me, even though I had a scout pitched even higher on a tower. Snowtroopers were lethal up close though but even though they cleaned out the fleets at height 1 above them the ATRT and Leia flanked them and got instant revenge. Stupidly wasted Maximum Firepower in round 1 with the range limit and my bikes went out early so couldnt use vehicle command cards (Veers one and Pinned down). Coordinated fire was also handled badly by me. Leia,Chewie, ATRT and one rebel squad survived.
Not much movement: this was round 2 or 3

Thanks.
Tried skirmish 3 times now. Did ok with Krennic (Strict orders), Deathtroopers (dlt and long range) Stormtroopers x2 (dlt, extra trooper, targeting scopes) snowtroopers (flamethrower and frag) and sniper team. Snows and sniper team went out before the end. Lost a scout on a bad clamber. Would give them grappling hooks instead of targeting scopes. Didnt win but it was close

yeah I have watched and played 8 games now and I have seen the complete opposite. Snipers are super useful because they can still sit in the back and plink away at corps units with pierce and/ or they can hit bounty hunters and heroes for good damage. Bossk is actually amazing in this format and so are tauntauns. Activations still matter a lot and getting the most amount of activations for your points will still win you games vs taking big units like vader or palp.
Droideka are really tough at 500 points. My experience has been the enemy is too spread out to focus fire, and the wheel mode makes them surprisingly fast.
