Imperial Assault Tools - thread deleted?

By Bitterman, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

The thread about the Imperial Assault Tools Suite appears to have been deleted. I wasn't notified of the deletion, and can't begin to imagine why it might have been. (Notably, other threads about community-developed tools are still open).

Any mod want to let me know what's going on?

Maybe FFG are bitter someone is doing amazing work for the community and carrying on holding up their games idk

Nothing, mods? No response at all? That's just rude.

Well, for anyone who wants it, the tool suite can still be downloaded from here . I'll create another thread about it when I get round to it.

What a sad and pathetic action from FFG, taken directly out of the losers playbook. They think that if this game won't die on its own, they can artificially kill it.

I'd recommend that you go post your tools over at Board Game Geek . The community over there is just as viable as it is here (several members are at both sites). And you won't have to deal with some butt hurt poser mod attempting to flex their authority from their mom's basement.

(If you can't tell, I'm not a fan of the action FFG has taken here. I'm a big fan of Bitterman's work).

Its worth pointing out that Moderators have a longstanding history of not getting involved in discussions on the forums.

Why the original thread was removed I can't even guess at.

I would not immediately assume that it was maliciously done though.

Not assuming anything (I mean it was up for a couple of years, with hundreds of replies, it's been a popular way for people to add life to their games, and other threads about similar tools are still up; so I couldn't begin to guess why someone took this one down).

I just haven't had any explanation at all, or even notification about it. Tried to contact them directly too, nothing from that either. It's just rude.

Tools thread already exists on BGG: here . Barely anybody responded to it and it sank without trace, not sure if that says more about the tools or IA on BGG.

I agree, it's rude.

I was in no way saying you specifically were assuming things.

It was more of an attempt at a broad statement, that without further information from someone who knows why it was taken down there is little use is speculation or assuming.

Hopefully we can get the thread restored, as it's definitely one of the best tools anyone has made for IA.

Downloaded the suite, made one deployment card successfully, but now the abilities box doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas?

Make sure you add how many figures are in the group. If it doesn't have figures, it will assume you are making a skirmish upgrade or the like.

****, thank you, that was driving me crazy. ( ̄▽ ̄ )

No problem, I had that problem and had to figure(pun not intended) it out myself. Glad that I could help

I've created a new thread for it here . Please feel free to discuss the tools on that thread.

This thread exists only to ask why the old thread mysteriously vanished without explanation.

Just a note to say I'd still really like an answer to that question, please mods. There were hundreds of comments on the old thread so it was obvious at a glance that it was worth looking at, new players turning up to this forum might not even notice the new thread. Given that FFG have decided to stop supporting IA, it's not obvious to me why someone decided to delete just one thread about just one tool that people found really useful for keeping the game and the community alive. I think as a matter of basic politeness and respect I deserve to know why.

Good luck with that one buddy. We all know the Mods love their silence...

Just be glad the app itself hasn't gotten a takedown notice.

I mean, if that's a possible outcome... they should tell me. Then I'll stop putting time and hard work into doing any more for it. Am I going to argue with an FFG-employed lawyer? Of course not.

But I actually have no idea if that's why the thread was deleted. Was it a lawyer sniffing around and getting antsy? If so, what can I do to avoid the problem - how can I change my app to assuage their concerns? Or was it just an overenthusiastic mod getting carried away without any actual foundation? Or was it nothing to do with that at all, perhaps just the result of a bug in the forum? Or maybe they had some data loss for some reason? I've no idea, and I'm not psychically skilled enough to "just know" somehow. If they want me to take some particular course of action, they need to tell me that, otherwise I'm left guessing.

FWIW, (1) there's actually very little in the app that is FFG's IP - some of the custom card backgrounds only. Almost everything else is just a link to elsewhere on the web, and most of that is from FFG's own public-facing website! Technically they'd have me bang to rights, but in practical terms there's very little there. And, (2) why would my tool be the only one whose thread was deemed worthy of deletion, not any of the couple of dozen other tools doing similar things, many of which include hundreds of megabytes of direct scans of FFG artwork, cards, tiles, etc. - which for the most part, mine actually doesn't?

(And all of that is even without making the naive "but it's good for the community!" argument, which I know would be a waste of time, if some perceived threat to their IP is in fact the reason the thread was deleted. But... I don't even know if that's the case.)

There might be some delicateness involved. But, well, I don't know. There may have just as well been some technical issue.

Does anyone have a direct way of communicating with a Mod who could look into the issue?

I mean, if it is a bug I would imagine they would want to know about it right?
