How to find groups?

By thinkbomb, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

upfront - surface layer this is an odd question... but I'm a workaholic freelancer (no co-workers). Also, regular group turned intro not-regular.

how do you find people to play with? 😕

like, any suggestions helpful.

Try posting in local game stores.

  • https://www.rpgtablefinder.com/ and other sites like this are a good place to start.
  • Facebook Groups, i don't know how widespread they are - but in my area i got one overall RPG Facebook Group and it can work quite well to find a Table.
  • Discord Servers - just look for some big RPG ones with a wide range of Systems and start asking around for your area.

Local game store posting is a good idea. Some play online (Discord, etc...) when they cannot find people to play with live. I am left with doing video chat to sit in 2x's per month with my traditional gaming group (if no one is sick, tired, or working long hours). I went to Play-by-Post (blog-text style) to fill in the gaps and scratch that itch. It let's me post several times a week and play/GM in several games at my leisure, when I have the time. I just can't set aside the time to regularly join another live or video group. Been doing PBP into the 4th (?) year now. Consistent group of players. ( http://nemeses.xyz/gaming/phpBB3/index.php )

Sometimes finding a 'good', consistent, group is just a lucky blessing. :D

Post in a FB group or on meet up or at your LGS in the message board but offer to run a session of one of the starter sets. Even if you’re not all that experienced as a GM, offering to host and run a game generally has (in my experience) better feedback than trying to find a coveted spot in someone else’s game.

I had pretty good luck with https://www.meetup.com/

I'll second that recommendation. I've also found that running games at local conventions helps me meet other players, gauge their styles, and then offer invites to those whom I find agreeable.
